Ethical Consultation

Dr. Jamison has joined a group practice of psychologists who have asked her to develop her biography to post with her picture on their social media page. They have asked Dr. Jamison to reach out to her former clients from her last employer to solicit testimonials. Dr. Jamison is very concerned about this request. She was unaware the group practice had a social media page. When she visits the page, she sees several client testimonials for other psychologists in practice, some of which appear to reveal identifying information about the clients.

1. Describe the ethical issues involved in this situation.

2. Discuss the steps Dr. Jamison should take with regard to her discovery of potential ethical concerns.

3. Provide recommendations for the group’s advertising needs that would meet ethical standards.

Mezzo and Macro Practice Settings

Mezzo (sometimes spelled as meso) and macro practice settings involve working with larger systems. In this sense, you move from the individual to mid-level systems that are part of the community and neighborhood. The mezzo level can act as a cushion between the micro level and the macro level when communities are safe, schools are strong, and families and neighborhoods are connected. However, the mezzo level can also act as a barrier or source of conflict if poverty or crime, or substandard schools are part of a neighborhood’s fabric, or families are disconnected or isolated. Mezzo practice involves working with groups or organizations to affect community or institutional change. This can mean working with a local organization on social issues important to constituents such as poverty, child abuse, homelessness, substance abuse, and crime.

Macro practice settings can encompass the level of social work in which advocacy and community organizing are common. Macro practice is a large-scale practice, and work becomes more indirect (meaning the work is conducted at an administrative or social policy level rather than working directly with an individual). Several of the prominent historical social workers such as Jane Addams focused on macro practice as part of community welfare planning, which resulted in the social service movement and broad social reform.

Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.

Using the information you gathered from Week 1, prepare a chart in which you describe the available agencies and organizations that would be able to address the social problem/issue that you identified. Please describe the types of practice skills that would be needed in a mezzo or macro practice setting. You may find that these skills overlap, and if so, explain why.

Support your assignment with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.

For your final paper, you will be required to link a business topic to a focus area(s) in this course. Your goal is to demonstrate critical thinking and high levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy (Links to an external site.) by connecting your business topic to the concepts in the book. You are able to personalize your learning by selecting the areas you are most interested in researching and/or the areas that are most applicable to your industry.

BEST PRACTICE Approach:

Step One:

Determine your business topic by deciding what areas of business interest you. In addition, you must select a business related topic that you can support with scholarly peer-reviewed research. I would encourage you to use Welder Library e-resources to search for peer reviewed journal articles prior to selecting your topic.     

Step Two:

• Review the Table of Contents in the beginning of the text.
• Select the chapters that seem most applicable to your topic or are of interest to you.
• Review the chapter of interest for specific concepts.
• You are asked to submit four connections, but ultimately you will focus on one or two course connections in relationship to your topic for your final paper.

The final paper is due WEDNESDAY of the last week of the course, however, the first step is selecting a topic and applicable course concepts. This week your only task is to begin brainstorming! As a graduate student, you are able to personalize your learning to determine human resource concepts that are most applicable to you, your experience, and your work environment.

For your final paper, you will be required to link a business topic you select to focus area(s) in this course. You are able to personalize your learning by selecting the areas you are most interested in researching and/or the areas that are most applicable to your industry. You will be required to support your paper with secondary research using Welder Library eresources. Reading, analyzing, and using existing research will expand your knowledge past what you have experienced or know to be true.

Final Paper Requirements 

Write a 5-6 page paper that demonstrates a clear understanding of your topic and a connection to a focus area(s) in this course. You are tasked with demonstrating synthesis between the concepts. This is a scholarly paper, so you will need to ensure your paper aligns with the APA 6th edition writing style. In addition, you cannot use 1st person in this (or any) scholarly paper. It is appropriate to use personal experiences; however, when doing so refer to yourself as “the author” and not in the first person (me, I, us, we, etc…). Also, do not use “dot com” or wiki references. All sources must be from peer-reviewed journal within the last 8 years retrieved from Welder Library.  Sources can be older than 8 years if they are formative to the field of study. You are expected to showcase the comprehension of your topic in relation to a focus area(s) of this class.

• 5-6 pages of body
• 8-10 peer reviewed, scholarly references. These references must be clearly cited within the body of your paper. Your textbook can be used as a reference but must be in addition to the 8-10 sources.
