Business Finance Homework Help
CSU History of African in the US Discussion
I’m trying to learn for my Business class and I’m stuck. Can you help?
ASSIGNMENT 1
-After the federal government gave up on Reconstruction, generally what were any 2 of the major challenges faced by African Americans?
-Specifically, how did the Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court case and decision (1896) create the Jim Crow era of discrimination against African Americans; what was the meaning of the “separate but equal” provision/aspect of the Plessy decision?
-Beside the legal features of Jim Crow segregation, what are at least 2 examples of extra-legal (unofficial) Jim Crow era terrorism (i.e., Ku Klux Klan, banishment, …) used against Blacks socially and economically; and what do you believe motivated these racist oppressive actions?
-Was segregation/Jim Crow beneficial to African Americans in any way; or how specifically did Blacks use segregation to their benefits?
-What or who is a specific organization, persons or movement that exemplify (or used) each of the following classical leadership tactics during the early Jim Crow/Nadir period (1900-1930):
accommodation
radical-protest
nationalism?
-Based on your review of all relevant resources, about post-Reconstruction Jim Crow discrimination and terrorism, what are you left wondering about; what questions are left unanswered for you?
ASSIGNMENT 2
-From your review of the U.S. Census data, and other sources, what is unique or surprising about the African American (AA) demographics: population size/percentage, locations, etc.?
-In each of the following 4 areas, what is at least one disparity between AAs and whites:
A) economics (employment, wealth, education …)
B) politics/power (elected officials, voting, incarceration … )
C) health (cardio-vascular, HIV/AIDS diseases, food deserts …)
-Why do you believe these disparities exist/persist today, 60 years after the modern Civil Rights movement’s achievements, and in an era where a “Black”/bi-racial person was elected President of the United States?
-What are your thoughts on any of the issues raised in the: PEW’s “5 Facts about Black Americans”; for instance, why do you believe Blacks and whites statistically hold different views on racism in the U.S.?
-Despite the disparities, and relatively negative state, what is at least one specific strength of AA communities?
-Concerning your own access to political power and political solutions, which congressman and 2 senators represents you (your residential district) in the U.S. Congress, and what do you know about their legislative priorities?
-What specific information from any of the resources sparked a wonderment or an unanswered question in your mind? (mandatory!)
