Cornell University Professional Profile Summary Statement Discussion Paper
3. Career Management – My Career Plan
Minimum length 850 words
Your final assessment task for the unit is to develop a career plan that can be mobilised now.
IMPORTANT: The career plan that you develop now is not something that is set forever and cannot be changed; so it should be clear enough to provide a good sense of planning and practical pathway, but flexible enough to be able to be adapted as your circumstances and progress change.
You should find that you will be drawing from your work across the whole of this unit for developing the plan. The purpose of this is to bring all the different elements of career aspirations, management and enhancement (skills development) into the one space in an organised format that is practical, usable and adaptable.
CRITICAL:
- As a ‘live’ document, this should be something that is of practical use to you
- DO NOT write an ‘essay’
- Create a functional document that includes sub-headings; that has an organisation of information that makes sense
- Dot points, diagrams, rubrics, images, tables, diagrams or other forms of presenting relevant information will help frame your plan.
You career plan should include the following:
- YOUR NAME -this is your plan and your professional future that you are mapping out
- A professional profile summary statement (i.e. you can use the profile summary for LinkedIn that you created in Assessment 2 – #1.3 “About” section). Placed at the top of your career plan, this statement will always be on hand for adding to your online profiles or correspondence.
- A revised career aspiration statement (based on your research of future trends, the industry panel and your informational interview) and updated from your Assessment 1 Career Aspiration
- EmployABILITY comparison – Provide a screenshot of the ‘EmployABILITY’ results radar chart you completed at the start of this unit. Take the assessment again and provide a screenshot of the new results. Explain any differences in your radar charts with links to your learning in the mini modules. Access the EmployABILITY self-assessment tool via the link below
- A plan to take as much control as possible of your current and future digital identity (e.g. practical steps such as sectioning off public from private)
- A skills self-evaluation (what skills do I have; what skills do I need; what skills do I want to develop). This should be for a. technical skills (i.e. qualifications and certifications) and b. employability skills
- A SMART Goal action plan to develop one employability skill or Murdoch Attribute
- Career goals: large and small, how to achieve them, and when I will achieve them by
- Timeline – organise the career plan over 2 – 3 years – using visual elements to chart your progress.
