Yanbu University College Data Center Design Project Paper

objectives
Objective of this assignment is to produce a data center. In this proposed solution our topology needs to
have certain requirements as we present:
1. Core Layer
2. Nexus Model 7000
3. vPC between nexus devices in distribution layer
4. Access layer
5. MDS for SAN environment in access layer
Data Center Design
1. Core Layer
• One router is implanted for ISP access connected to distribution layer.
• Router services: NAT , Access list/Firewall if needed.
2. Distribution Layer
• Three Nexus 7000 switches. Reasons:
o Higher Bandwidth between slots [1.3 Tbps]
o If this implemented, ethernet interface will have same speed as the module.
o Switching capacity reaches 21 Tbps.
o Support FCoe which implemented in the design.
• vPC feature is implemented to avoid redundancy and higher bandwidth/speed and availability
[Keep A live]. Configurations:
o Core1:
Feature vpc Feature lacp Int mgmt0
Ip address 10.1.1.1/30 Vpc domain 10
Role priority 10
Peer-keepalive destination 10.1.1.2 source 10.1.1.1 vrf management Int eth 1/53-54
Decription vpc peer link Channel-group 15 mode active No shut
Switchport
Int portchannel 15 Decription vpc peer link No shut
Switchport mode trunk Vpc peer link
o Core2:
Feature vpc Feature lacp
Int mgmt0
Ip address 10.1.1.2/30 Vpc domain 20
Role priority 20
Peer-keepalive destination 10.1.1.1 source 10.1.1.2 vrf management Int eth 1/53-54
Decription vpc peer link Channel-group 15 mode active No shut
Switchport
Int portchannel 15 Decription vpc peer link No shut
Switchport mode trunk Vpc peer link
• Firewall router: to control and secure access to data center from users.
Access Layer
SAN – Storage Area Network topology is [Fibre Channel Switched Fabric Topology]
SAN Server [Host Layer]: as Initiator in SAN.
MDS 9000 [Fabric Layer]: Multi-layer Director Switch for storage forwarding. Reasons for MDS 9000:
Availability
Multi-protocol support
Simplified Management
Future Proofing
High Performance Storage Director
Target [Storage Layer]: Rack for storage devices units which controlled by SAN server and protocols used
as needed:
SCSI for Blocks.
NFS, CIFS,SMB for Files.
• LAN Switches – connection to access for users in network. Switches are connected to firewall for
security and control data center access
