Social, Political, and Environmental Systems 

    Health systems and systems thinking are very important as they bring new ideas and methods that will increase the well-being of individuals and communities. Because public health relies on evidence-based data to improve health and disease, utilizing multiple systems provide access to interact with several databases, increase information technology, and provides acknowledgment in public health decision making (Elsawah et al., 2020). In addition, utilizing social systems in assessing public health help outlines several structural relationships within communities, individuals, and groups which bring a level of understanding on how individuals interact and live together. Political systems also provide a passageway so that public health goals can be achieved and sustained. This system is beneficial in providing and suggesting rules that will bring about equality to divided communities and sectors. Additionally, environmental systems help understand difficult interrelationships between people and nature which provide evaluation and strategies that will watch over the well-being of individuals and environmental effectiveness (“About the public health and environmental systems division (PHESD),” 2021).

As a public health practitioner, discuss how you would assess and prioritize components within each of these systems (social, political, and environmental) as they influence the target population.

    As a public health practitioner, I would first evaluate and understand what is needed to protect and improve population health within several sectors. Outside of focusing on population health, health practitioners must ensure the right strategies are implemented that will tackle the social, economic, and cultural environment at all levels (Cheer & Lew, 2017). However, from a social perspective, I would ensure that there is the inclusion from all groups and provide a detailed focus on determinates or causal patterning between it and additional social conditions that influence health by ensuring social support and boosting an individual’s self-esteem. (Andermann, 2016). Moreover, the implementation of political systems would provide public policy and understanding to support effective action. Lastly, environmental systems would be implemented to influence target populations through on-time information, accurate dissemination of data that will engage communities, and help with decision making that will create positive behaviors and health outcomes (Andermann, 2016).
