Auburn Career Center Global Health Children Vaccination Discussion

The main reason parents refuse these vaccines is because they have been known to cause major developmental issues. No one wants their child to be infected with something that other children are born with. In the video, there were deceitful actions involving the putting out of the MMR vaccine. Vaccine use is serious and should be handled as such. Vaccines are suppose to do away with disease and not give development issues that will last a lifetime. This relates to the hesitancy of COVID because people think something bad will happen with this vaccine. Some, like myself, feel as if it was too quick of a creation. Others say the vaccine was in the works years ago. This could be understood as the government knew the pandemic was about to happen and allowed it flourish the way it did. Effective ways to get anti-vaxxers to take the vaccine is possibly understanding where they come from. Without mentioning one being afraid, talk and try to get to the root of the refusal of the vaccine. Listening can help clarify if one is worried about “getting sick [from the vaccine], being controlled or manipulated, or because of conspiracy theories, social pressure, or lack of information”. Opening a space for better communication will always make people vulnerable. They may choose in time to get a vaccine.

A. So after reading the article, I realized that the greatest, reason parents express for refusing vaccinations for their children are concerns about the safety of vaccines. Many parents believe the side effects of vaccines are more extensive than what they are told by their physicians, and that the risks outweigh the benefits of vaccinating their children.

B. So there have been reports that vaccines can cause autism, brain damage, or behavioral problems which cause parents to be more cautious and have more concerns regarding the safety of vaccines. There are many reports and opinions that it causes some parent’s uncertainty, and it is targeting at the safety of vaccines. They raise doubts about both short-term adverse reactions and the possibility of long-lasting negative effects. It is these concerns about safety that can cause parents to completely refuse vaccines. This is related to what is happening today during this pandemic, a lot of people do want to get vaccinated to protect themselves from Covid-19, but at the same time they keep hearing about side effects and other things the vaccine will do in someone’s body which makes them even more scared to take it.

C. So I believe that healthy relationships between a practitioner, doctors and parents can go a long way toward helping patients in terms of this concern. Trust is paramount and will help put parents at ease and help them overcome unmerited fears. By approaching a professional questions about the vaccine, it will help the parents understand more and not rush into a misconception about it. If the parents just approach their friends about it, that is not a reliable source because the friend doesn’t know how the vaccine was made or what the side effects are, so It’s important to talk to a professional about vaccines in order to be sure they have all their questions answered.
