Lake Sumter State College Patient Assessment in Clinic Microsystem Essay

I’m working on a nursing multi-part question and need a sample draft to help me study.

Introduction:  Nurses (and other providers and staff) have knowledge about the patients receiving care within their clinical microsystem (unit). That knowledge, however, is typically limited to individual patients or what happens on certain days of the week or during specific shifts. Gaining a deeper knowledge about the population and subpopulations served within the limits of a specific microsystem can help to identify ways to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the patient care system. You will likely need to meet with your unit manager to get the information required for this assignment.

LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT PROJECT WRITING ASSIGNMENT #3 (PATIENTS). (Minimum 2 pages; Maximum 4 pages; APA 7th edition format)

In this paper, you’ll be taking a closer look at the patients receiving care in your clinical microsystem (unit).  You will likely need to meet with your unit manager to get the information required for this assignment. The Patient assessment should introduce the microsystem in 1-3 sentences and the rest of the paper should cover the following areas:

1.  Bed capacity of the microsystem; average census; any times when census is unusually low or high. inpatient unit consist of 15 beds often time a waiting list is in place. It normally a high census its not often that we have a low census.

2. What is it like in daily life to have the condition(s) treated in your clinical microsystem (unit)?

3.  Describe the primary (majority) population served by your unit.  What percentage of patients treated are in this majority group? After describing the majority population provide a detailed description of a typical (fictional) patient, to include:  age, gender, ethnicity, marital status, children (if any), employment status, from where they were admitted to your unit (ER, primary care provider, another unit, another hospital, etc.)  family/friends supportive/present, emotional status during hospitalization (anxious, angry, introverted), treatment options, has a primary care provider (or not).

4. What subpopulations exist within your primary (major) patient population? How do their demographics differ from the ‘typical’ patient? Discuss the level of diversity among the patients treated in your clinical microsystem (economic stability, health insurance, ethnicity, age, disability, etc.)

5. Where do your patients travel from to receive care in your clinical microsystem? List all areas you are aware of; ask your manager if there are others of which you are not aware.

6. What do patients think about the care provided? What do they think your clinical microsystem can do better? (Discuss the patient satisfaction surveys with your manager.)

7. What new information did you obtain by doing this assessment? How did finding out this new information impact your perception of the patients being treated in your microsystem?

8. Throughout the paper, inform your findings with evidence from the readings and the literature. For example, as you discuss the subpopulations within the primary (majority) population served, what does the literature say about acute care outcomes for this group? Use at least one module reading and two current (within the past five years), peer-reviewed NURSING journals to support the content of the Patient assessment.
