Review the Gil, Bipolar I Disorder video in the Learn section prior to completing this Discussion.

Since observation is the most common method of assessment, for this module’s Discussion, you will exercise your observational skills and write a summary of your observations. After watching the online media clip, write a summary about what you observe while watching the featured individual’s behaviors, emotional expressions, mood, etc. Include Christian worldview or biblical themes where appropriate.

During the interview process, Gil had a lot of movement and hand expressions while taking, often touching his face or covering his mouth, and his face was animated throughout the interview, and you could see his mood in his facial expression. At times Gil seemed a little confused, and he did not allow much silence or pause during the interview process, which often resulted in the interviewer talking over Gil and Gil talking over the interviewer. There were fluctuations in mood during the interview from high to low.  Grande et al. (2016) stated that mood fluctuations are common in many people, but for someone with bipolar I, these moods appear noticeable and persistent, causing life stress and impairment, leading to the idea of an affective disorder. The interview session was very fast-paced and quick. During the interview, Gil seemed to have many thoughts going on and answered questions quickly with rapid thinking and speaking in between question and answer. Gil is high-energy and has a dominating brasher voice. Gil often asked the interviewer if they would do that in a condescending tone.  Gil does not take any accountability for his actions, and he tries to justify issues that he has dealt with in life and often blamed others instead of taking any blame. Phil is very open about his alcohol use and excuses it because he uses it only on weekends.  Gold et al. (2018) stated that substance use disorders are present in up to 70% of individuals with bipolar disorder. Phil uses many yes or no answers quickly, and then when the interviewer gives an example, Gil will often change up his response.  He will say yes, then says no within the same breath regarding the question he was asked.
