ISS 3130 FIU Fundamentals of National Security ISIS Discussion
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, better known as ISIS, is a terrorist organization that has seized control of large areas of the Middle East and acquired a global following. Through years of conflict with US and international forces, ISIS has been reduced in strength and their command and control have been weakened. For example, in 2017, the Defense Intelligence Agency estimated that ISIS (Links to an external site.) had lost 65 percent (Links to an external site.)of its land in Iraq (Links to an external site.) and 45 percent in Syria since 2014. This week we will be looking at the current state of ISIS and the organization’s impact on US national security.
