Use the topic sentence and the direct quote from Blinder’s article (both identified below) to create a single paragraph with a correctly embedded quote sandwich. This is a paragraph that you might have in a larger research essay on this topic. The main idea (thesis) you would be defending in this hypothetical essay is this:

Even though prisoners are incarcerated for committing crimes against society, they still have human rights that should not be violated.

Topic sentence: (use exactly as it is to start your paragraph): Most people would agree that prisoners deserve safe living and housing conditions.

Direct quote: “Inmates, lawyers and doctors described similar conditions inside other jails across the South, and some said that temperatures endangered the lives of prisoners with health problems.”
