We will talk several times this semester about the various ethical issues researchers must consider when conducting research. The documentary “Three Identical Strangers” tells the true story of identical triplets separated at birth, who meet each other later in life.  The documentary raises several important concepts for ethics in behavioral research, such as the debate between nature vs nurture and how far researchers can or should go in pursuit of a “true experiment.”

For this assignment, you are required to complete two steps:

Step 1: Watch the documentary “Three Identical Strangers.”  It is available on multiple video streaming apps such as Amazon Prime, Hulu, YouTube, Vudu, etc.  You can rent it for $2-3.99 in most places. 

Step 2:  Write a paper that addresses the following questions:

The film states that the brothers are not a case study for “biology being destiny.” Support or refute this claim. Explain your reasoning.

Is it ever justifiable to deceive research participants? If so, under what circumstances?  If not, why not?  Support your position with evidence from your human subjects training and course readings.
