Replying discussion art 2

1-Form follows function” is a saying from the early 20th century which states that the shape of a building/ object should correspond to its intended function and purpose. In Romanesque architecture emerged during the medieval era and has so many beautiful examples that can relate to the phrase “form follows function”. One example of this is the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Apsidioles, or small chapels, are used to display relics that the pilgrims had to venerate. I believe that this can apply to Romanesque art because the form of the cathedral/churches have their specialized function for example. Inside the nave are arches, vaults, it is said to have diffused light and it atmospheric. The arches in the building are in order to bring sunlight in and allow more space.it is a beautiful temple designed to bring joy and happiness into other people.

2- Romanesque architecture grew out of the demands of the people. The massiveness and simplicity of constructions during this time period are the epitome of “form (always) follows function.” Romanesque churches, for example, are distinguished by huge masonry walls and vaults, which replaced the earlier timber architecture to avoid fire concerns. The buildings’ facades aren’t overly ornamented or decorated because the structure’s purpose and function come first, as “form (always) follows function” states.
