2) Write a 100-word response to each student in first person as if you were writing it to the students. Talk about how you agree with their ideas and add your own thoughts. Make sure it’s respectful.

Student 1) Capital punishment in my opinion should not apply to juveniles. To begin with, what is capital punishment? “Capital punishment (known as the death penalty) is perhaps the most attention getting form of crime control in America” (Worrall, 2015). Capital punishment for a juvenile is not appropriate in my opinion because at a young age perhaps there is still a chance for redirection. When a juvenile commits a violent crime such as murder or rape I still believe that capital punishment should not be an option even if there is no hope for this teenager to be redirected. Our hope and goal for a juvenile justice system is to give them the tools necessary to change and to not reoffend as an adult, if all the resources fail and they reoffend as an adult then they should be held accountable with whatever punishment is given, due to the fact that chances were given. I think that this question is a real hard one to answer because we want to be sympathetic and believe that with resources and direction juveniles can change but it is hard to give a definite answer if this juvenile commits murder at an age where they are fully aware of their actions and what is right from wrong.
