Walden University Nurses Duty and Responsibility in Quality Care Discussion

Help me study for my Writing class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.

Nurses have a duty and expectation to provide quality care using best practice and evidenced-based best practice to achieve the best patient outcome. The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) is a primary source for reporting nursing care outcome indicators (Montalvo, 2007). NDNQI collects and reports quality indicators, both quarterly and annual QI data outcomes, which allow nursing staff to review and improve critical areas of deficiencies. So NDNQI empowers nurses to work together while promoting autonomy to suggest ways to provide more effective ways to provide quality patient-centered care for all patients (Brown et al., 2008).

One-way nurses can empower their patients is to advocate for their care and involve them when planning and developing their care plan. It not only promotes independence but makes patients more willing to adhere to the treatment plan because they were involved with planning their care. This helps build a rapport and a therapeutic trusting relationship with the patient. The nurse is responsible for educating patients on health-related issues and concerns in addition to any other information that may relate to any decision-making concerns (Guglielmi et al., 2014).

The organization I currently work for empowers the nursing staff by compensating nurses who chose to pursue higher education by reimbursing them for a portion of tuition for completing the BSN program. They also provide frequent seminars and other continuing education opportunities for the nursing staff.

As a registered nurse, I care for all types of patients with illnesses and injuries. Therefore, I have personally taken the initiative to continue to enroll in continued education and certification training to stay up to date on current evidence-based best practices. Not only did I empower myself to further my education knowledge through courses, but I encouraged my old classmate and colleague to enroll in CCRN certification class due to her love and goal to work in the ICU someday. I also enrolled in a med-surge and a wound care certification program. Taking these courses has helped me assess and treat wounds better and initiate TX orders in the long-term care facility I am currently working. Also, my love and passion for being a registered nurse during this pandemic have led me to encourage others, including my friends and family, who share the same passion for helping others pursue a career in nursing. Including my baby sister, who recently graduated with BSN-RN in May of this year and recently accepted a position in a trauma ICU.
