Forum Post 1
In your Pajo text, read chapter 1’s content about theories of knowledge. In your Creswell text, focus on the first half of Chapter 3 that explains quantitative theory use. Several additional articles are provided in the Courses resources file for Forum 1 which will help you better embrace how theory informs inquiry efforts regardless of the paradigmatic research approach. I suggest you read them in the following order:

Kurtines and Silverman (1999) writing Emerging Views of the Role of Theory. This will give you the perspective of what was thought about the role of theory at the turn of the century.

Wald and Daniel (2020) explain the importance of how conceptual & theoretical frameworks support new researchers’ (doctoral students!) in making contributions to the body of knowledge. Note this was just published.

Van der Waldt (2020) discusses the role of theory associated with the social sciences and emphasizes the importance of conceptual & theoretical frameworks for both qualitative and quantitative research and provides practical advice for exploring the literature.

McPhetres, et. Al (2021) provides a meta-analysis of research published in one prominent journal from 2009-2019 focusing on the role of theory in the psychological sciences.

Starke (2018) presents an interesting discussion as a doctoral student about the status of theory and theorists in contemporary times.

Construct a “post” of 500-600 words discussing the importance of theory for the development of any research proposal focusing on how it is used for quantitative research (as opposed to qualitative inquiry). Include explanations of conceptual and theoretical frameworks and how these integrate with a literature review process.. Cite at least four of the resources (texts and articles) as appropriate within your post. This is your “initial post”. Due May 9th.
