Language use is very important during preschool to early childhood age. Careful and thoughtful scaffolding by adults provides the foundation for language development. Vygotsky feels that young children need child guidance to support them until they reach the ability to understand. The guidance allows young children to proceed through stages of language development as easily and fast as the child allows. The adult serves as a model, provider of language experiences, and interactor as the child participates in the give-and-take of conversion.
Children need that interaction with adults and other children. When children interact with each other through play they develop their own language which is like the first step of dialogue, play allows the children to have great interaction with one another and learn to talk to one another. When a child has conversations with adults it allows them to enhance their dialogue. WHich causes the child to be able to learn words and develop great speech and language skills.
Teaching children is not the same as it used to be. Everything is so fast and people don’t have the patience. I feel most teachers are not taking out the proper time to teach the children. ANd those that struggle are getting overlooked by the one who knows the information. Teachers are just flying through the lessons and assessing the children and just moving on. And A lot of children for just getting passed along. Education is not taken as seriously as it should.
I feel now the people that are teaching are not passionate about teaching these children, they are just doing it because they feel that it’s easy. Working in a kindergarten class as a TA, the teachers I see fly through the information and don’t really take out the time to make sure every child has understood the information. Some of these curriculums are not appropriate for children’s ages. It’s way too advanced which causes the children to be left behind and overlooked because when you’re doing group work majority of the time the children that do not know the information of copying what everyone else is doing so it’s very really hard to tell who knows what with that one on one with the teacher and the child.

– Children will change their speech depending on how old the person they’re talking to is. Children talk more careful around adults because they can sense their expectations and will talk in longer sentences rather than when they are talking to another child. Starting around 4 years old, while children are active in free play, their talk starts to be more collaborative rather than self-centered. Lower class children may be less likely to get help from adults than middle class children. Whenever children talk about something that is familiar with them, they will speak more advanced.
Whenever children speak about books or artwork they made, you will be able to observe their use of language. If you want a child to get rich communication, let them take part in dramatic play. When in kindergarten, children have complex conversations while they take part in open ended tasks. Academic and social success can be improved by developmentally appropriate success. Children learn dialogue that they should use while talking to their peers from their parents. Three year old’s will be able to listen, understand, and ask questions or put their two cents into family conversations. When children play with one another, they have a lot more private speech happening. Our book says that in order for children to get a rich source of information, ability for children to get a rich source of information about language use they must take part in play. This also increases imagination and when children talk back and forth they teach one another.
Explain the major issues in supporting young children’s literacy development.
– The instructional system for the United States is not very strong. Little to no experience with print media or books. How important that children be taught to competently read and write. Groups of children per class are culturally diverse and a mix of disabled children with children that did or did not spend much time in preschool.
Too many teachers are still using the readiness/ maturationist view even though research says that it isn’t appropriate. Poor recourses and policies made. Teachers that have been poorly educated. Less appropriate practice happening and more inappropriate teaching practices going on.
