A Rebuttal needs to be more than 1 paragraph.
It’s not an essay. No MLA should be used, so no MLA parentheses or Works Cited entries should be sent. It should be 150-250 words and it should quote from the Original Post you are choosing to rebut, words another student used to support an argument. Rebuttal is disagreement; you have to disagree with another student’s post.
Continue to follow the “no you” rule. (This means that you would not even call the person you would be directly debating by “you” or “your”.) And please proofread for grammar.
YOU MUST REBUT A STUDENT WHOSE ORIGINAL POST WAS ON A DIFFERENT TOPIC THAN YOUR ORIGINAL POST WAS.
Quoting should not appear random. When quoting from a student’s Original Post, be clear what you are quoting.
Please no attachments. Copy and paste into Discussion Board, but please no attachments.
Here are the different post you can choose to do your rebuttal on: (ONLY NEED TO PICK ONE AND RESPOND WITH REBUTTAL)
1. In the article “The Pros and Cons of a State Lottery,” many good points are made. It starts off by saying, that there has been an increase number of syndicates that have been purchasing tickets. This proves that people are no longer being discouraged from the odds of winning. There is an estimation that one in three global lotteries are won by syndicates. Despite that fact, the likelihood of winning is still very low. This estimation raises the question of if participants have better ways they could be investing their money.
The people that win the lottery are often times affected by the impact of winning. Winning the lottery does not necessarily mean that a persons future or happiness secured. More cases than not, people’s lives have been greatly affected as well as their families. The lottery can bring about a lot of extra stress into a persons life, and that stress can easily be avoided. The lottery can also become a very addictive thing, and inevitably be a waste of time and money.
2. With the current state of the Education Lottery, it is only certain doom almost all participants face when gambling whether they are to win or not. The statement “State-run lotteries are a tax on the poor and uneducated (Scott Beaulier)” shows studies about the negative side of the lottery. The lottery poses itself as a fun way to participate in a non-harmful gamble. All this is, is the government trying to make a quick penny with getting by with only the skin of their teeth.
The main attraction of the lottery comes from only a couple of things. The price, the idea, and the appearance. Inside of every lottery scheme, the plan is to make the lottery ticket as cheap as possible by also making the pot as highest possible. The idea is to only allow one winner out of thousands and upon millions, while still giving you’ve hope that you might win. And lastly the appearance factor, using big and colorful propaganda/advertisements to publicize their “get rich quick” ideas. All of these factors are talking about in the article “Why Lotteries Are Harmful” to make a long story short, the lottery should be changed in a way where people do not spend their whole earnings away thinking they will win, otherwise it should be illegal to put mass amounts of money into the lottery system.
3. In the article “Doctors Debate If High School Football Should Be Banned Due to Concussion Risks,” by Gillian Mohney, doctors discuss the roughness of the sport of football and how getting concussions happen so frequently and could lead to the development of CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy. I disagree that football should be banned at the high school level, because of the fact that the risk of injuries like concussions are probable in our everyday activities. However, I do believe that tackle football should not be allowed for children below the high school level. My reasoning for this is that for a sport with so much contact, younger-aged children will experience injuries more often than someone at the high school level whose pain tolerance has improved through their teenage years.
Mohney goes on to explain CTE and how it involves the buildup of tao, associated with the breakdown of brain tissue. I do understand that head injuries are a frequent problem in the sport of football, but people hit their heads all the time. Whether someone runs into a door, falls, or even gets in a car wreck, head injuries are inevitable and happen more than most other injuries. I believe that football players are taking their own risk by going out onto the field and banging heads together because most if not all schools give out concussion forms warning the athlete about the seriousness of the sport. The players ultimately choose to get head injuries and I think they should have their free will.
4. In the article “Doctors Debate If High School Football Should Be Banned Due to Concussion Risks,” there are very good points to both sides of the argument of whether or not minors should be able to play football. If there were not health risks related to playing this would be an okay sport to play. There are too many injuries that could be caused that are lifelong injuries.
Another article “Should Parents Be Afraid To Let Their Kids Play Football?” states that there aren’t enough studies to prove that it is a fatal sport. The leading doctor in the discussion believes that it is still not a good idea to promote this sport to children due to related injuries. He says that he doesn’t support it as a father, physician, or scientist. Just because there aren’t enough studies to prove that it isn’t bad for minors doesn’t mean that it’s okay. There are too many availabilities for children to get concussions or even permanent brain damage for minors to continue playing this sport.
