The subject that struck me the most in the New York Times article A.I. Is Learning From Humans, Many Humans that was written by Cade Metz on August 2019, was the fact that among all the photos and videos that people have to go through in order to provide A.I.’s with a basis of data, there is pornography and violence. They have to tag this content as not suitable and inappropriate, and the content is so graphic that the employees who sift through it have to be in a separate room, as to “shield other workers (Metz 2019). The company that was discussed in the New York Times article, located in India, iMerit, would have “pornography and violence are mixed with more innocuous images” (Metz 2019), so as to make it less upsetting for the workers. In my opinion, this seems not nearly enough to counteract the negative effects watching hours of disturbing content would have on an individual. This part of the article really struck me because it seemed unethical and wrong that workers have to undergo such mental toll for the benefit of foreign companies.
