Persuasive Instructions

You are required to submit the FINAL copy of this assignment, but you may first submit an optional DRAFT. This will allow you to receive qualitative feedback that can inform your revision. You should always avoid focusing solely on the grader’s DRAFT feedback; use the feedback as a supplement to the course lessons and your own revision ideas. Always expect to revise beyond what the DRAFT grader specifically notes.

Topic and Structure:

Personal Letter – Construct a letter focused on persuading the reader to change his or her stance or opinion.

Think about a personal opinion you hold in which someone close to you (friend, family member, etc.) disagrees. Appeal to your reader in an emotional manner using appropriate language and strategies such as motivation, inspiration, etc., to write a personal, passionate letter in an effort to get your reader to agree with your perspective. Kindly play off the reader’s emotions to draw him or her into your argument. Make sure your appeals are legitimate and straightforward so that you avoid using logical fallacies in your efforts.
Use letter format, provided at the end of these instructions, and begin with an introduction that explains your topic. Make a fluid transition into the thesis where you issue your opinion as well as three reasons that support your claim. Present and argue each of the three reasons in three separate body paragraphs. Finish with a conclusion that summarizes your appeals and makes one final effort to sway your reader.

Sample Thesis Statement: Therefore, Carol, my dear friend, please reconsider homeschooling your children because this approach can stunt a child’s social development; it tends to be subpar to nationally recognized curriculum, ultimately becoming a hindrance to college acceptance; and lastly, the chosen teacher, whether that ends up being you or another qualified instructor, will not have the resources that public school teachers have available to continuously enhance and advance instruction.

Analysis on Food Security

Overview

The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth. They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked you to consider:

The member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere, every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective and nutritional agricultural practices. The crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain control of the population and their power by limiting access to nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby “weaponize” food.

Your second project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop an analysis that addresses three issues related to global food insecurity caused by global population growth and poverty, and to explore these issues in a developing country of your choosing.

Instructions

The U.N. has given you the following guidelines:

Content

The U.N. has asked that your paper contain three sections. Each section should be one page (or approximately 300 words) in length and answer specific questions, identified in the outline below. It also asks that you use examples from your developing country when answering the questions.

  2. Identify the three sections your paper will cover.
  3. Identify the developing country you will consider.
  4. Tell the U.N. the causes of food insecurity.
  5. Provide a one-sentence statement of your solutions at the end of your introduction paragraph.
Section I. Background
  1. What is food insecurity?
  2. What role does population growth play in food security?
Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security
  1. What forms of technology can be used to reduce hunger and improve food security?
  2. How would these technological solutions work?
  3. What causes of food insecurity do these technologies address?
Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country
  1. Considering the causes of food insecurity, what factors interrupt the flow of food from the source to the people in the developing country you selected?
Conclusion
  • Provide a conclusion of half a page minimum that includes a summary of your findings that the United Nations can use to inform future policy decisions.
Success Tips
  • In answering each question, use examples from your developing country to illustrate your points.
  • The U.N. needs facts and objective analysis on which to base future policy decisions. Avoid personal opinion and make sure your answers are based on information you find through research.
Formatting Requirements
  • Make sure your paper consists of 4–6 pages of content (or 1,200 words minimum, not including the cover or reference pages).
  • Create headings for each section of your paper as follows:

Part 1: Law Enforcement Officer Arrives at the Scene Scenario
An 18-year-old high school student walks to class carrying a backpack. He is stopped by the school security guard and his backpack is searched. A loaded handgun is discovered. The school security guard takes the student to the principal’s office. The principal calls the local police. In the state where the school is located, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit and all weapons are prohibited on campus.

Officer Smith arrives at the school approximately 10 minutes later. Officer Smith takes a statement from the school security guard and searches the student’s backpack. He seizes the gun and places the student under arrest. Officer Smith then asks the student if he would like to make a statement to explain why he was carrying a concealed weapon on campus.

The student replies, “What weapon? That’s not my backpack and I never saw that gun before.”

The student is then transported to the local jail. However, on the way to the local jail, Officer Smith asks the student again why he brought a loaded gun on campus. The student admits that it was his gun and stated that he needed it for protection. Upon arrival at the local jail, the student is booked. 1.California has many pristine places such as parks and other attractions and many people like me who live in other places love to visit California and enjoy the beautiful places. The problem with most tourists is that they usually think that since they are spending money and can afford what they want to do, they should do it regardless of the damage which they may cause. We need to be more responsible for our actions and think about future generations and try to keep some of these pristine places for them too. Do you think we have enough laws and regulations to preserve these places? Is an individual should feel responsible for preserving natural resources?

2.Tourism is a big industry which creates many jobs and economic opportunities for many people. The national parks are the main tourist attraction in the United states. We have so many pristine places and it is joy to visit these attractions. The problem is that we as humans wherever we go, we create waste and increase pollution. This is especially visible in big parks such as Grand Canyon which several millions of people visit every year. Unfortunately, many people still do not pay attention to pollution and they always think that someone else will clean up after them. We need to learn to be more attentive to these issues and think about future generations too. Do you think we have enough laws and regulations to prevent pollution in our national parks?
