Even though the animation is associated today with computers and advanced technology, it began much before than anyone has ever predicted. Instances of animation have been observed as early as during the prehistoric times when archeologists discovered figures drawn in a series of successive motions on cave paintings. A 5,200-year-old animation has also been discovered on an Iranian bowl. Similarly, early versions of animation have been discovered in Egyptian art also.

Leonardo Da Vinci, the great Italian mastermind had also experimented with animation. In his folio, the Windsor Collection, Da Vinci attempted to portray the human body in a series of sequences which implies the use of animation. However, like many other Da Vinci sketches, this one also was done much before the right technology was available.

The first technology to incorporate animation was a television with its standard picture film. J. Stuart Blackton, the father of American animation, released the first animation film in 1906 titled Humorous Phases of Funny Faces where the image sequence was drawn on a blackboard and presented in succession to create the illusion of movement. Later in 1908, Fantasmagorie, a stick figure animation film was released. In this film, the images were drawn on a paper and later shot on a negative film. These were rudimentary animation films where often the animator’s hand was visible but despite this, they required great talent and creativity since they were executed in a time when computers were not available to store or modify characters.

Later with the release of the cinematograph, the technique of stop motion made animation more interesting. With the release of Haunted Mansion by Blackton in 1906, animators were able to interest and inspire the viewers in the way they were able to master the technique of animation.

My lecturer was brief and clear and demonstrated all the skills that were required to acquire a good study habit. In her lecture, there were demonstrations, reading and writing notes. I found the lesson to be quite interesting as the topic we were learning touched my area of weakness, and from there I knew what to do in order to improve and develop a good study habit.

In this lecture, I learned about critical thinking and reading skills. In the first part of the lesson, the lecturer defined the term critical reading, as in-depth reading and analysis of what the reading material states. Initially, I always read books and academic materials very partially and recklessly. However, from the lecture, I realized that it was not the best way of reading. therefore, I learned that I needed to sharpen and improve on my skills of reading and learning, in this case, I had to learn and implement the new reading skills that would lead to a good performance. After learning this, found my reading of the books very easy and very effective. For instance, in my course, of study that I am currently taking, I realized that I needed to read the whole chapter in order to grasp the theme of the book, this helps me to gain more knowledge and the concept of the topic am reading about. According to my lecturer, critical reading involves in-depth reading and analysis, therefore through this knowledge. I realized needed to critically and analyze the topic from the chapter that I was reading. However, it is not always easy for me, since I find the sentences to be long and complicated as well as somehow hard to comprehend. For instance, the topics of politics and business, some of the topics from these are somehow hard to analyze and comprehend.

There are however critics who argue that heteronormative attitudes are stigmatizing, marginalizing and oppressive of deviant forms of gender and sexuality. These deviant forms of sexuality include bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender and intersex people. Heteronormative culture fosters a climate in which these deviant forms of sexuality are discriminated against in the workplace, marriage and even tax codes. There has been strong opposition to such discriminations and a lot of movements and advocacy outfits have been formed to ensure that people with such traits are treated with dignity in our societies.

In the article introducing the new queer cinema, there were concerns about the rise in films that were themed on these deviant lifestyles (Gever, M. 2010). There were serious concerns that the reason such movies were trending in the 1980s was to bring out such deviant lifestyles as things that people needed to treat with contempt. The manner in which they were portrayed in certain movies was to ensure that people looked at the deviants as people who weren’t supposed to live in their midst. Such movies were seen to be radical in form, and aggressive in the manner that they presented sexual identities the conservative perception of heterosexuality.

Such movies resisted the promotion of gays and lesbians positively. This was in spite of the fact that there had been liberation movements and advocacies that had given a little space for those who had such deviant sexual orientations. Cost and Healthcare

In a recent election, on a national debate stage, a political candidate declared that “no American has ever died for lack of health care”. It is true that hospitals are required by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), a federal law to stabilize and treat all patients, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. It is an unfunded mandate with hospital emergency rooms bearing the entire burden of the cost. Outside the boundaries of this act, un/underinsured patients surely do die for a lack of health care.

Have you or anyone you know been in this situation? How would someone feel if they were in a position where they could not afford treatment?  In the movie, “John Q”, John Quincy Archibald’s son Michael collapses while playing baseball as a result of heart failure. John rushes Michael to a hospital emergency room where he is informed that Michael’s only hope is a transplant. Unfortunately, John’s insurance won’t cover his son’s transplant. Out of options, John Q. takes extreme measures to save his son. While a compelling film, it is certainly from one point of view and sensationalized. Health care professionals must always be tasked with seeing all points of view with objectivity.

Question the impact of being uninsured.
