Modeling Linear Equations
Each week, you will be asked to respond to the prompt or prompts in the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length, and is due on Sunday. By Tuesday, you should respond to two additional posts from your peers.
This discussion requires a partner for data-sharing purposes.
Step 1:

• Measure the length of your forearm (in inches) from elbow to wrist.
• Record your height (in inches).

Step 2:

• Find a partner from the class or someone in your life who can measure.
• Exchange your measurements. This will give you two ordered pairs: (forearm length, height)

Step 3:

• Use your ordered pairs to find the slope
• Using the slope you obtained and your personal measurements, use point-slope form to get your equation
• Solve for y so that it is in slope-intercept form

Step 4:
Graph the line on the Desmos website using the y-intercept, your point, and your partner’s point. If you are correct, your line should go through all three.

Put your arm length in for x in the equation of your classmate, and see what height it corresponds with.  Compare this to your actual height.  Is it close?  Very much off? Do you think this equation is good for predicting someone’s height?
