Job : Field Officer at Action against Hunger
To whom it may concern,
I am hereby writing this letter to express my interest in joining your esteemed N.G.O. as a Field Officer. Given my background as an experienced worker in the emergency interventional sector all the while undergoing an extensive academic education as an architecture student, I believe that my profile perfectly fits the required criteria for this particular position.
I am now looking to dedicate my academically acquired knowledge and expertise toward a humanitarian domain. I have first discovered my tendency and preference toward community work through my 7-year long position as a Team Leader in the Guide du Liban association (Girl scouts). During that time, I was responsible of leading a team of 20 adults to complete community work and community-related activities such as undergoing community visits and volunteering work, and organizing fundraising events to collect monetary help meant for impoverished communities.
This tendency and passion for community and humanitarian work resurfaced since 2018 with my enrollment as an Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.) with the Lebanese Red Cross (L.R.C.). Becoming a committed and operational member of the L.R.C. team has pushed me to extensively learn the necessary required technical medical skills as an interventional and decisional element during medical emergencies. More importantly, this three-year volunteering path has granted me the opportunity to develop and improve my ability in working with a team, as it required me to immerse myself in an environment where synchronicity and cooperation with other team members are crucial to obtain optimal interventional conditions during more or less precarious and emergency situations. It has also given me the chance to test and develop my ability in multi-tasking and managing very stressful duties without failing to always deliver high quality work.
More than being an introductive factor to professional community work, my enrolment as an E.M.T. volunteer has given me the motivation to strive in that field and aspire for more. In that regard and with my qualifications and capacities, I am currently training to become the Emergency Team Leader, a position through which I will be given full responsibility of being the decisional reference during emergency interventions. More than an environment in which I have had numerous opportunities to obtain essential hard and soft skills in working with vulnerable individuals during stressful emergency interventions, my journey as an E.M.T. volunteer has granted me the chance to work with governmental institutions and hence deepen my knowledge about administrational matters related to governmental risk management efforts. I have in fact volunteered as a Disaster Risk Reduction officer in charge of training municipality forces to cooperate with the Ministry of Interior on assessing and inventorying Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. More than being a trainer, I have also supervised the implementation of Covid-19 prevention measures in all Lebanese University campuses across Lebanon by working in the Ministry of Interior and on the field. This has helped me develop both my communication skills and the ability to complete given tasks autonomously.
Aside from direct humanitarian participatory work, I have in parallel enrolled in multiple architecture internships through which I have applied my theoretical knowledge in a practical context. For instance, during my internship at MURR Development S.A.R.L as a Site Supervisor Intern, I have supervised and coordinated an entire team of workers in a construction field and ensured that the work done met standards while overlooking and aiding contracting procedures. This has given me the opportunity to experience both field work and office work with the main purpose of site improvement and workflow enhancement. Moreover, other internship opportunities at different architectural offices, such as Matta Et Associes S.A.L. and Sfeir & Ghoul Architects, as an architect intern where I managed design-sensitive projects at different phases of construction and ensured optimal communication vis-à-vis clients and consultants have helped me fill the gap between rigid academic theory and flexible work practice.
Furthermore, because I strongly believe that, as individuals, we have to thrive to become productive components in society and fully put at work all our skills, I have always been keen on putting my technical and soft skills to work at any opportunity that may arise. This justifies my position as a Design assistant at Samra Sanitary, through which I am currently in charge of supervising and assisting design efforts meant for clients or for conceptualization purposes. Not only did this position give me an opportunity to work independently as a decision-maker, it also led me to strictly manage my time and learn how to meticulously plan and prepare beforehand in order to maintain my academic scores while acquiring professional experience and being a E.M.T. volunteer. Other than enrolling in volunteer work and in professional internships to maximize my productivity, I also have recently initiated my own small business, Yocto Design, through which I create and design tailored decorative items while being in charge of customer service, marketing, advertising and communication tasks.
Having said that, I strongly believe that I am now ready to pursue a career path that combines both my passion for humanitarian help and Architecture. I am also certain that the position of Field Officer at your internationally renowned N.G.O. will help me grow professionally as a helping component of society. I am confident that I have acquired and developed the skillsets and technical abilities necessary for this position and that I will be a very effective and beneficial addition to your team.
Thank you for your consideration,
Brenna Norman

Little Sunshine’s Playhouse & Preschool
Granite Bay, CA
Identify at least five skills you have obtained through the general education courses that will make you successful at this job.
As a preschool program director, you must be knowledgeable with the children in your care and be a people person who is friendly and inviting. They are looking for someone to do anything with this position, including family tours, community involvement, licensing standards, and much more. According to the General Academic Information and Policies in the UAGC Catalog, my general education knowledge has prepared me for written and oral communication, problem-solving abilities, thinking and resolving an issue or problem critically, and the ability to be a lifelong learner. For this position, you need all these qualities and skills to be successful. For example, oral and written communication is essential for running a successful team and communicating with the families in your care. Being a lifelong learner is vital to being up to date on all the new licensing rules and regulations, plus wanting to learn more about child development by attending seminars and conferences.
Demonstrate with at least two examples how your newly acquired knowledge and skills have shaped both your personal and professional development.
My personal and professional development has changed dramatically. For example, after completing my general education course called communication studies, I gained more confidence in public speaking. I now can do speeches at my local community events or hold a staff meeting with confidence. With my critical thinking and reasoning skills, I can think about an issue, see both sides, and come to a logical conclusion. With my researching abilities, I can find reliable resources and provide the correct information before making a rational decision.
Describe your plans for putting your education to use within your community.
Within my community, I have already started the process of getting more involved. Not only am I on the board of my local chamber helping to promote new and old local businesses in my area. I attend local rallies in support of helping my community and doing my part to be more active when it comes to using my education and knowledge. With this position, I would advocate for the school I worked at by attending local community meets and getting the name of this school out into the community.
