1) Overview of the 5-6 books written in a paragraph, brief and to the point. Students will be expected to write authentic summaries of the books. Points will be deducted from summaries that are copied directly from various websites. Each group will be expected to submit pictures of the books in the project. You can include pictures of the book covers from some of the websites.
2) A Paragraph about the Population to whom you will be teaching the books. Describe your grade level, the type of school, classroom size, and the community.
3) Provide an in-depth overview of the primary theme. Why did your group select the theme? How does the theme address cultural diversity?
IV. Teaching Activities (Students will be expected to develop teaching activities for 3 books (Pre-Reading, During-Reading, and Post-Reading.)
(Since this is an online course, students will be expected to complete this section by developing a plan of teaching activities that you might use in the future for pre-reading, during reading and post-reading.)
Design your teaching activities to be meaningful work to introduce, discuss, and follow-up on the teaching of your book. This section should include the following:
Pre-Reading Activities for one book
Activities designed to get students ready for the reading and study of the book. Include each of the following:
1. Lead-in Book. Select a book that has a close connection to the books you will be sharing in your literature project. Include the author, title, and publication information for your lead-in book. You may choose a picture book, folktale, short story, or poetry. Be sure that it has some connection to and provides a lead into the project. Include a rationale for why you selected the lead-in book and how you intend to use it with the class.
2. A Pre-Writing Activity that leads into the book.
3. A Discussion or Discussion Question that leads into the book.
During-Reading Activities
This section of the project will include representative samples of activities that you would use to teach the book. This section may include more activities than you would actually use when you teach the book.
For the purpose of this assignment, include one of each of the following:
1. An On-Going Reader-Response Activity or Activities. If you decide to have your students keep a journal, include the directions you would give them for journal writing or entries.
2. Develop three or More Discussion Questions. Focus on the goals that you have selected for the teaching of this book. Also, be sure that the questions are designed to promote higher-order thinking skills.
Post-Reading Activities
Activities to be used at the conclusion of teaching the books.
1. Develop a list of four critical thinking activities that apply to the books that will teach students to move beyond the most fundamental level of Dr. Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Concluding Activity.
1. A culminating activity to celebrate the teaching of your book and to bring closure to the unit.
2. Describe some new insights that you acquired from this project.

1. Bibliography of all resources consulted or used for the book study unit.
