Type a response to the following questions:

 

First, write a brief summary of the article to which you are responding:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then, answer the following questions in relation to the opinion editorial you are writing:

 

  1. Writer – Who are you in relation to this topic?  Do you have any credibility to talk about your topic?

 

  1. Audience- To what audience would you direct your argument?  Consider their age, income, education, belief systems, loyalties, etc.

 

  1. Claim- Specifically, what is the point you are trying to prove? (you may need to start brainstorming and writing a little before this really becomes clear)

 

  1. Support- What reasoning do you have to back up your claim? (for example, if you told someone your claim, and they said, “Why would you think that’s true?,” what answers would you give them?

 

  1. Purpose- What is your purpose? For the most part it will be to persuade or convince.

 

  1. Context- What contextual elements influence your argument?

 

  1. Ethos- how might you be able to be credible on this topic?

 

  1. Pathos- What type of emotions evoked in your audience may help you to persuade them?

 

  1. Logos- Look at the support you have for your claim. Do you think it’s strong?  How so? What sources will you bring in to support your ideas?
