  1. Read Chapter 6 and Pages 223-231 in Health Policymaking in the United States.
  2. Watch the videos on the legislative process located at www.congress.gov/legislative-process. Be sure to watch each of the sections (1 – 9). The total time for all of the videos is 27:18 minutes.
  3. Review Key Health Committees and Subcommittees.
  4. Watch the video and review the information on the What is Rulemaking? page at www.regulationroom.org
  5. Choose a health-related bill before the current Congress.
    1. Navigate to Govtrack.us
    2. Choose a bill of interest by clicking on its title. You can choose a bill that originated in the Senate (S.XXX) or the House of Representatives (H.R.XXX). Do not choose a resolution (S.Res.XXX). Note: You can narrow the number of bills you see by looking at a specific subcategory.
      1. Review the information provided about the bill. Be sure to click on the Overview, Details, and Text links. Review any position statements on the bill. If available, these can be found toward the bottom of the Overview page.

      1. Navigate to the Discussions Posting page below and make your initial post summarizing the bill you chose. This initial post should include the following information:
        1. What would this bill do?
        2. Who is the bill most likely to impact?
        3. Who is/are the bill’s sponsor and what is their party affiliation?
        4. Are there cosponsors? If so, how many? Summarize the party affiliation of the cosponsors.
        5. Has the bill been assigned to committee(s)? If so, which one(s)?
        6. Are there related bills?
        7. What is the current status of the bill?
      2. Your initial response should be 150 to 200 words in length. Use proper spelling, grammar, and APA style. Be sure to include the citation for the bill’s webpage.
      3. The initial post must end in a question for your classmates to consider. The question may refer to the assignment, any of the material you read, or media you viewed.
