Due
to the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the strategic implications for
companies is shifting more attention to doing business online. Many
consumers have become interested in having products delivered right to
their door rather than going out to buy them. With this in mind, a lot
of companies will decide to close some of their brick-and-mortar stores
down and move products to warehouses instead. Some may even close all
physical stores down completely and only fulfill customer orders online.
Also, with an increase of people looking to buy stuff virtually
organizations are able to attract more new customers, leading many to
invest their money into new locations or warehouses as well as expanding
their workforce in order to meet higher demands. Furthermore, companies
are putting money into new technology which will also help meet higher
demands, more specifically computers and machinery. Companies are
looking at how they manage their supply chain. With more people ordering
online can a company deliver each order quickly and efficiently. Will
they be able to avoid supply shortages or restock in a timely manner?
Finally, some consumers may continue their new spending habits even
after the pandemic ends like being more frugal or newfound loyalty to a
different brand. As such companies might be considering strategies to
regain the interest of past and potential customers.

The
worldwide pandemic caused by Covid-19 has had a profound effect on how
consumers gather, shop, and utilize products offered by both
manufacturing and service-based industries. What are the strategic
implications of these trends for companies both now and in the future?

The
pandemic has changed our world as we know it, we are living
differently, buying differently and even thinking differently. With
fear, anxiety and worry running high it is helping to fuel panic buying
of both staple products and hygiene products. Along with the consumers
that are remaining indifferent and continuing business as usual. With
that being said many consumers are buying all of their products online
and having it shipped to their doors, or ordering take out that is
delivered to their doors, or ordering products online for curbside pick
up ensuring as little contact with other consumers as possible in the
hopes of not spreading COVID-19 further. For Companies this has forced
them to evolve with the trends and also allowing them to expand their
businesses to allow them to offer these modalities to their consumers, a
lot of companies have grown their virtual workforce as many businesses
have closed their doors and encouraged their staff to work remotely
which most of these staff member are now planning to work remotely even
in the future.

As
the companies are redefining their relationships with their consumers
and employees, they are also reconsidering their products and the
services that they offer, which is all accelerating the move to a more
data driven operation, changing their investment plans for the products
and services offered and constantly looking for ways to open up better
opportunities for their companies.

political, or technological trend that significantly affects the case
study you have chosen to do your final project on. I recommend that you
use the case you have selected for as many of these assignments as
possible. If the discussion question or assignment does not apply to
your particular case, give a reason why and suggest an alternative
approach.

One
of my favorite examples when looking at this question is that of
Disney, and their use of wristbands for park-goers. If any of you have
been to Disney World in the last few years, you have likely noticed how
they are now giving patrons a wristband in place of a paper ticket. Not
only does this wristband act as a ticket, it is also a means to buy food
and merchandise, check in for rides, access your hotel room or gym, and
myriad other functions. Thus, no more lost tickets, misplaced wallets,
or need to carry a pocketbook on a roller-coaster. Even better, the park
sells “bling” to decorate and individualize your wristband as desired.

But
what makes this an even bigger “win” for Disney, is that it allows them
to track your movement, watch what you buy, and customize your visit
for maximum enjoyment (profit?!) It is just one example of how the low
cost and miniaturization of RFD technology has allowed a company to
produce something that changes how consumers interact with their product
while also providing marketing with much more insight as to their
customers buying habits.

When
researching this company, I found an update that was released in
relation to the company and COVID that covers the impact it has had on
the company. At the beginning of this pandemic it did make an
anticipated impact on the demand and the demand dropping, the company
was able to adjust their operations. They had a campaign in place
already called “Think Outside” and the nature of their vehicles they
where already set up to help encourage social distancing.

But
the company along with most vehicle companies is facing supple
shortages, with the part shortages across the globe that started last
summer they have started building whatever products that they do have
parts for. Or building their products and having the dealers install the
missing parts once they where available. Which did help them buy some
time and keep in production.
