Today, we are being bombarded by the pandemic news. In some ways, we are comforted by being informed, yet in other scenarios, we wonder if the leaders of our organizations or government agencies truly understand its magnitude and even how to manage such a worldwide crisis. Similarly, with the tools and technologies presented in Chapter 7, most organizations have the flexibility to ask employees to work from home which has helped reduce some stress.

With this background, as information systems professionals much of the work you would typically do will have (or has) a strategic impact yet is behind the scenes.

This week, as background, please read the Case Study on page 288, “Google, Apple, and Facebook Battle for your Internet Experience.” (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED)

1. Select one of these firms (Google, Apple, and Facebook). What has this organization done with its technology and core competencies to help address the pandemic angst among the populace?

2. What do you recommend they and other similar technology-enabled organizations do better?

3. Present an example of an exemplar pandemic message from a company, government agency, or non-profit that has provided sound information to its constituents. What platform and related web tools did they use to effect such messaging?
