Recognizing Fake News and Disinformation Discussion Question

I’m working on a communications writing question and need support to help me understand better.

For this week’s forum, we are exploring websites that check information for bias, misinformation, and possible fake news misinformation. Go to the following websites and review the methodology they use to test information for accuracy.

  • Our Process at FactCheck.org
  • Methodology at Media Bias/Fact Check
  • Transparency at Snopes.comOn the other hand, When I was evaluating the Media Bias Fact Check website. I had some matters that concern me. Even though the grading system appears to be effective for those who use the site, but when you scroll down the website and reach the disclaimer section, which says that the “Media Bias Fast Check will always review and change any factual errors when brought to our attention. We make every effort to be factual as possible. Our goal is to have MFBC rates as least biased by our own criteria.” This makes me wonder if the sources have been thoroughly fact-checked to the best of their skills or if the website just updates when new information is obtained. What if anyone is conducting a fact check for an important article and finding out a week later that the information has changed so you acquired a piece of incorrect information in the first place that you thought was accurate. I think when examining information that doesn’t come from scholarly sources is taking a risk.

so my job is to pose a question to this dude, in a meaningful and thoughtful way.
