How has mobile connectivity and mobile marketing impacted the retail landscape? Have your personal shopping habits been impacted? How so?Lastly, explain how social media marketing relates to mobile marketingMobile connectivity and mobile marketing has impacted the retail landscape in two perspectives. One could say that it has impacted the retail landscape negatively because more consumers are spending their time shopping on their phone, not necessarily within physical locations as often anymore. People can now look up if the store has their product they wish for rather than browsing the store itself, preventing them from making additional purchases on a whim. But the other perspective is that the retail landscape has taken advantage of mobile connectivity and mobile marketing to directly market towards the consumers to entice them in. They can use mobile locations to see when consumers are near the store and send deal announcements or spotlight products directly to their phone to grab the consumer’s attention to come into the store. They also have the opportunity to see the frequent searches or products that an individual has been interested in recently and use that to send product suggestions directly to them to make it more personable as well. I have personally experienced receiving ads on Facebook for “target” brand products while I was in the mall that contained that store. Admittedly it did draw me to stop by to look but I have never taken notice that it was mobile marketing directly because of my cell phone. I have also seen ads within my social media based on other products I have bought before and have gone to the store to find them, without even consciously knowing I was looking for something. Social media marketing relates to mobile marketing in the same way. I see ads on Instagram and Facebook for places that I have recently visited, attempting to draw me to become a return customer. The new buy button that’s sweeping across social media platforms ties directly into media marketing and mobile marketing. A store can use your mobile connection in order to figure out products and areas where you are frequently in. They then can send you ads over the social media page of their choosing of products that they believe you would like and even offer the “buy it now” option, enticing you to purchase right on the spot without even intentionally shopping or looking for the product. Some may think that this is an invasion of privacy, but it’s also a genius form of marketing and gives the company a deeper connection with their consumers and the preferences and routines.Edited by Richard Lucero on Jul 20 at 5:40pm ReplyReply to CommentCollapse SubdiscussionJa’Nice Locket-Dortch

Hello Class,As the text states, “the world is well on its way to being digital and mobile is quickly becoming the main avenue of access to digital technology including the Internet” (Barker et al., 2017, p. 208). Being that retailers rely heavily upon apps and websites to target their audiences and initiate sales, mobile connectivity and marketing has served as a catalyst for this effort. If we are speaking of the traditional brick and mortar retail experience than it is safe to say that the transition has had a negative impact. This is due to individuals shopping online versus actually visiting physical locations. On a brighter note, this may not result in lost sales because individuals maysolely rely on the website or app to check stock and availability in there region before heading to the store which still bring in in person shoppers. Being that we spend so much of our time surfing the web mobile marketing can reach a larger market which will potentially generate more sales. My personal shopping habits have been greatly impacted due to the accessibility mobile shopping provides. Of course COVID-19 only accelerated this change further and I honestly do not plan to retrogress due to the convenience I have been provided. Most of my online shopping is done through Amazon much like the rest of shoppers. This is because “In the last reported year, the multinational e-commerce company’s net revenue was 386.06 billion U.S. dollars, up from 280.52 billion US dollars in 2019” (Chevalier, 2021). That figure is very telling as it pertains to e-commerce and shopping in general.Social media marketing relates to mobile marketing in similar fashion. It’s always interesting when you see see ads on Instagram and/or Facebook for products or services that I have recently visited which is of course an attempt at gaining my business. A impactful feature many of us have probably noticed is the “Buy Now” or expeditions purchase options many e-commerce retailers have been utilizing to streamline sales. Both of these marketing strategies and features are just a few of the ways social media marketing and mobile marketing tie into one another.References:Barker, M. S., Barker, D., Bormann, N.
