Objective:  This assignment will help students relate small business concepts to local area businesses.

Due Date:  The list of questions for this assignment will be due on Wednesday, July 14 at 11:59 p.m.  The full, completed assignment will be due on Wednesday, August 4 at 11:59 p.m.  Please submit both of these documents in the appropriate D2L Assignment Dropbox.

 

Each student should select three chapters from the textbook and create three questions from each chapter that they would like to ask an entrepreneur/small business owner from their community.  These questions will be submitted to the appropriate D2L Assignment Dropbox for instructor review and approval prior to conducting the entrepreneur/small business owner interviews.  Make sure they are not simple ‘yes/no’ questions, and please note the textbook chapters from which you have developed the questions (1-2 pages, 100 points).  In light of COVID safety concerns, please conduct your small business owner interviews via telephone or Zoom (or some other remote meeting software).  

 

Please format the final assignment document using the following subheadings and submit to the appropriate D2L Assignment Dropbox by the due date:  

1)  Brief introduction of the small business owner and his/her company (Name of owner and company, summary of products/services offered, age of business, how the business was founded, legal structure, number of employees, number of locations, owner business background and any other information you feel is relevant – 1 page, 50 points).  

2)  Nine interview questions and answers (as many pages as needed, 50 points).  Again, you should be seeking explanatory answers here, not ‘yes/no’ answers.  Try to schedule about 1 hr. with the business owner.

3)  Conclusions, insights and takeaways on how the responses are related to the coursework (1-2 pages, 50 points).
