A classic case of bad accounting practices and  abuse of power by company officers is the Enron scandal  of 2001. Although somewhat complex, there were a few major offenses of the company that stood out. These bad faith practices seen at Enron and in other high profile scandals in the late 1900’s   became the foundation for the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) .
