Discussion 6 -1: Working with Tableau – Jose Gonzalez

I do not have much experience when it pertains to data analysis or visualization. As I worked on my bachelor’s degree I learned to use pivot tables using Excel, which I believe was somewhat similar to what our exercise was. They both allow you to make tables from the information provided into organized tables and other charts/graphs. I found Tableau to be fairly easy to use since we had step by step direction. If we did not, I believe it would have been a bit confusing on how to navigate the program at first, but overall was an easy program to use.

The topic of the assignment was one that I enjoyed because sometimes leaders tend to forget that their employees are human beings who get tired and have feelings. I think it is important to understand that the way we make our staff feel and the work load we put on them can in turn be a leading factor to their overall performance. I really enjoyed this exercise, because it allowed us to break down even further the categories of who was feel burnt out. By being able to understand the genders, age group, tenure, and positions, gave a better understanding of what was going on in the business. With that being said, I would have really liked to be able to choose different visualizations such as pie charts and even adding the table with information. I understand that the graphs are more visually pleasing, but having a table with the raw information would have been better for me personally, this would have allowed me to get the information needed quicker. Also, I am not sure if it was because I was using an Apple computer with VDI, but my labels on the bar graphs were not easy to read due to the size of the screen, so it would have been nicer to have the words fitted. see attached below for his document.

7-1 Discussion: Working With Tableau (Part Two)

Last week, in Module Six, you uploaded your visuals and executive summary in the discussion and shared your experience working with data and Tableau.

This week, you will review and respond to your peers’ posts. Respond to at least one of your peers (providing feedback for peers without any feedback first). Address the following points:

Review the visuals posted by your peers and provide your feedback by answering the following questions:

Are the visuals complete and accurate, representing all required analyses? Explain.

Are their visuals the same as yours? If not, speculate on why there could be differences when you worked with the same data.

Review the executive summaries posted, and answer the following questions:

Are the executive summaries clear, concise, and complete? Identify at least one strength and one area for improvement for each summary.

Do you agree with the findings and recommendations in the summaries? Why or why not?

How does your experience with data analysis and working with Tableau compare with that of your peers? Share some tips or pointers that helped you work on your assignment or may help address some challenges your peers faced.
