Hello Everyone,

This was my first experience working with Tableau.  I do however, use Excel daily for my job as a Controller.  One of my responsibilities is to put together monthly financial statements and provide a narrative for the results.  In order to do this I use Excel to compute a number of ratios as well as analyze trends from prior periods.  Additionally, I provide visual bridges to track changes in Net Income and EBITDA.  Similar to our Tableau exercise, these bridges are formed using bar graphs to show positive and negative movements to a number of variables that impact the bottom line.

I thought the customization in Tableau was very useful.  Not only was it quick and easy to make visual models, but adding additional variables and being able to filter them was very user friendly.  One thing that I had difficulty with was the long explanations of the qualitative variables.  It was difficult if not impossible to see what the responses were when creating the graphs.  This clearly isn’t an issue with Tableau itself, just an observation I made when working on the assignment.  It seemed to take away the benefits of a visual tool since it was difficult to determine the responses being measured. see attached below for his document.
