1. Project Background and Description

Ciomar Construction has an opportunity to build a pier for Impressive Resorts and Spas. The purpose of this project

is to mitigate the beach erosion problem and provide additional amenities for the resort. The beach erosion problem

has made it difficult to attract clients to the resort.

2. Cost Estimation

A project charter has been approved and a preliminary cost management plan developed, so you are ready to start to

develop estimates. As you may not have all of the information you require to develop the costs, list any necessary

assumptions made in an assumptions log.

Using the supplied charter, cost management plan and PowerPoint presentation, create cost estimates for the

resources required to complete the pier as pictured. (See Moodle) At the present time, there is no structure present –

just the beach.

Remember, your estimates will be used to create your project budget, the cost baseline, and the funding

requirements for the project.

3. High-Level Requirements

You are to use the templates from the “A Project Managers Book of Forms” (link posted on Moodle), and the

estimating techniques from section 4 of the “A Project Managers Book of Tools and Techniques”.

Using the forms listed below, complete estimates for the resources, work, and materials required to complete the pier

project. You need to provide estimates utilizing all four estimating techniques. For the analogous estimates, search

the Internet for costs on similar projects. Be sure to cite your sources of information. You should use the bottom-up

estimating technique to determine the cost of a section of the pier, and then apply parametric estimating to determine

the cost for the remaining portion
