It is important to post and engage regularly on social media platforms because maintaining one’s personal brand involves taking the time to create content that helps one reach their goals. An active, positive presence on social media opens doors to being noticed by your targeted audience whether you are an organization trying to reach your target audience (consumers) or an individual on an app such as LinkedIn trying to be noticed by a recruiter for a job you are seeking. Getting out there, building a network and interacting with a surplus of individuals allows one to keep up their relevancy and use their voice. I have a personal example to share that will help illustrate my response. Just recently, I made a LinkedIn page because I am about to graduate and I would like to find an internship before I enter the workforce. I have only had my page for a couple of days and have not taken the time to update my page regularly and engage with others and make connections. Due to this delay, I have gotten nowhere on my search. On the other hand, I had a friend who got on the ball right away and made connections and sent out messages all in one day and she has already paved way for quite the presence on the app. As I begin updating my page regularly, I can expect this kind of success as well.

The first thing that comes to mind when asked why it’s so important to engage on social media is Brand Awareness.   The more you interact on social media, the more it brings your business to the front and often on people’s mind.   My goal is for people to say, ” I need a sign, I need to see what Gray House Design has” instead of ” I need a sign, let’s go to Hobby Lobby!”  I also think it’s important to make a goal of turning “Likes and Follows” in customers!  The more people who engage and purchase your products and services are more voices that can help promote your company. With Black Friday right around the corner and I know the market for Personalized Christmas Presents is going to be hot in 3 days, I’ve already started to post personalized Farmhouse Signs.  I want people to be at their family Thanksgiving dinner and someone to mention a Farmhouse personalized anything and I instantly pop up in their minds!  One point to keep in mind is that the social media train does run both ways!  It’s important to quickly engage those with complaints and be transparent with solutions.  This shows that you care about your customers and want to make everything right with them.  If you are unable to satisfy them online, then move that conversation to an offline format.
