I’m studying for my Business class and need an explanation.

This assignment will allow you to reflect on what makes an individual a professional.

Scenario:

Think of a person you know and that you consider “professional” in the way they communicate or behave. This individual can be someone in a professional or academic setting, such as a a previous professor, or someone that you know personally outside of work and the university.

What makes this individual so effective in thier professional style? In two (2) paragraphs, try to describe the strengths, attributes or skills that you appreciate, along with two to three examples that illustrate your opinion.

Avoid vague or generic language, such as: She speaks “well.” Instead, be specific and try to describe what makes someone “professional.”

For example: “Whenever we have an important PowerPoint presentation to deliver at work, the day before, my manager locks herself in a room, where I can hear her rehearsing the presentation over and over again for hours. When she delivers the presentation, she does not even bother to look at the slides. Because she knows the content of each slide so well, during the presentations, she focuses more on engaging the audience. Her presentation tone is very confident, and she moves from slide to slide seamlessly, thanks to her level of preparation.”
