SJCC The Onset of The COVID 19 Pandemic Case Study
I’m working on a hospitality discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Case Study
Mike is a new front office manager who has inherited computers with different ages. Some were bought recently with all of the latest features, while others were over three years old. His four computers at the front desk were the newer ones that were required to run the many applications used in the running of the hotel. His computer in his office was older and was used primarily for managerial tasks involving spreadsheets and word processing applications in addition to e-mail and other Internet functions. In addition to the front desk staff, Mike managed the concierge department and van drivers. Each of these outlets contained two old computers. Mike was also in charge of the hotel’s business center near the front desk with five older computers in addition to a printer and scanner. In total Mike had fourteen computers under his management.
Guests who frequented Mike’s hotel were primarily business travelers who tended to bring their own laptop computers and smart phones. Some traveled with just their cell phones and needed access to a desktop computer for a short period of time. One thing they all had in common is that more often than not, they needed to print something.
Vague of Windows was the OS for the computer and was the required one for the hotel system at the front desk, concierge stations, and the van drivers. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike’s limited budget will allow him to purchase only three new computers. Mike knows a little bit more than the average person about technology and is thinking of possibly moving away from computers to other computing devices.
Recently, Mike read the following articles about mobile phone uses for business travelers.
News release of 2015 Expedia Egencia Mobile Index Study, https://viewfinder.expedia.com/news/expedia-egencia-mobile-index-study-of-global-travelers-reveals-that-they-now-consider-the-smartphone-to-be-their-most-indispensable-travel-companion (Links to an external site.) ,
Unfortunately, the pandemic hit the business badly. Mike read several articles about COVID-19 and hotel technology. For example,

Discussion Questions:
If you were Mike,
- Would the COVID-19 pandemic affect Mike’s decision?
- What should Mike do?
- What should Mike purchase?
- Should Mike purchase some contactless equipment?
- Which departments should get new equipment?
