SJCC The Future Aint What It Used to Be After Coronavirus Discussion

I’m working on a hospitality discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.

I used to start this course by discussing what the technology looks like in the future, at least 10 years from now. For example, here are two videos that were published more than 10 years ago, i.e., Docomo and Microsoft. Both videos envisioned how we used technology for life and for work in 2020.

The first video was published by Docomo, the leading mobile phone company in Japan.

Although the language is in Japanese, I guess you can catch the technology and applications in the video. Docomo is the largest mobile phone operator in Japan. According to Wikipedia, the name is officially an abbreviation of the phrase, “do communications over the mobile network”, and is also from a compound word (Links to an external site.) Kokomo, meaning “everywhere” in Japanese (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTT_Docomo (Links to an external site.)). The name was adopted in early 1990 with the goal of “do communications over the mobile network anywhere, any time.”

The second video is by Microsoft. As you know, Microsoft is one of the major leading US tech companies. In this video, Microsoft projected how it saw 2020, Microsoft: Productivity Future Vision.

You can compare these two companies’ vision in using technology for live and for work. Now we are in 2021. What applications in these two videos have been realized? What are still work in progress? How will these technologies affect hospitality, travel, tourism, and event businesses?

Here is another video by Gartner, which is one of the leading market research firms in the US.

Unfortunately, we have been hit by COVID-19 badly since early 2020. People in crisis management like to quote a Chinese saying that “Whenever there is a crisis, there is an opportunity 危機就是轉機.” This pandemic crisis also pushed business, including hospitality business, to utilize technology to a new front. Work that can be done remotely should be done remotely. For example, in education, we have implemented online learning. People now are familiar with work from home, Zoom meeting, video making, etc.
