Northern Virginia Community College Rebranding Move of McDonalds Discussion

You have to find an article written in recent 8 months (Aug/Sep., 2020 – up to now) reporting a current news of any brand. Such a news can be found through various media. Reading the marketing and advertising columns of the newspapers and business press (NYT, WSJ, Washington Post, The Economist, adweek.com, brandchannel.com, and adage.com, etc. can be a good source) will help. If possible, find relevant materials which strengthen and embellish your discussion as well.

– The news can be about a brand’s rebranding (or any change in its marketing programs), a new brand endorser, or a new brand campaign launch, or a new product launch, or a new (or updated) branding initiative, or an acquisition of new business either relevant to its current business or irrelevant, and any other change in branding strategy (e.g., repositioning, brand revitalization, etc.). It can be about brand responses to current events (e.g., COVID-19). It should be relevant to the topics that we discuss in this course (should be about branding).

– In your post, briefly summarize the news and state why you found it interesting and how it is relevant to our branding topics and discussions. Discuss how such a change will impact the brand’s performance or its brand equity (any potential backlash or backfire?) or customer responses? How do you judge its decision in the perspective of brand management? Implications of managing the brand over time? Will it help to build brand resonance? Why the company made such a change? Finally, you ask your fellow students’ opinions about the news and your perspective. You invite them to your discussion.

– Three paragraphs to report your findings will be good in your post. Include the source (web link, URL) of your article in your post. Therefore, your fellow students can access it.
