For this assignment you will provide a general analysis and evaluation of a speaker other than your instructor or classmates. Examples of possible speakers include, but are not limited to, campaign speakers; clergy; guest lecturers; or speakers at cultural centers or museums. The speaker may be on or off campus. Electronic broadcasts are permitted; including but not limited to those found on Ted.com (Links to an external site.), Historical Speeches Podcast (Links to an external site.), or YouTube.com (Links to an external site.).
Assignment
This assignment is worth 20 points. You will turn the assignment in through Canvas using the “Submit Assignment” button found on the top right hand side of this page. A ten percent grade penalty will be applied for each day the assignment is late.
Your paper should be two-four full pages, typed, double spaced, with a works cited page. Works cited pages are not included in the page count; meaning if you are asked to write a 4 page paper, you will actually turn in 5 pages which would include the 4 assigned pages + the 5th page being the works cited. Works Cited pages will always be it’s own separate page and not at the bottom of your paper. Note: If only one source is cited in your paper you will use the title heading, Work Cited, instead of Works Cited.

This is to be a critique and an analysis not merely a description of the event. Be sure to take a stand, explain, and defend your views. Use appropriate terminology and the vocabulary from the textbook whenever possible.
In well-developed paragraphs, support your assessment of the speaker’s presentation and content using evidence from the speaking event that you are analyzing. Grammar and writing style are very important. Check them both carefully.
