UMGC What Steps Will You Take to Build or Expand Your Network Humanities Questions

Week 6 Responses: Rhi ZangScenario 2:First of all, if Robert doesn’t believe that he can’t afford to pay for the degree, he can join the military since the military offers TA and GI bills to help him complete his degree. If Robert doesn’t want to join the military, he also can apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA).  FAFSA is a government program that helps students who have financial problems, just like Robert.Next, for buying software like PowerPoint, Microsoft offers free access to Microsoft Office 365. That includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. The only thing Robert needs to do is apply it using UMGC student email.Kadedra:Scenario 2Robert is returning to school after a long time away. While he doesn’t believe he can really afford to pay for a degree, he knows that he needs it to advance at work. He has registered for his first class, but notices that there is a required PowerPoint presentation. He isn’t sure he’ll be able to afford to buy software in addition to his tuition. What resources are available to help Robert remain in his degree program and be successful? How will these resources benefit him?Robert’s first concern is his financial ability to afford his degree. The first resource available to Robert would be financial aid. Financial aid could cover some of the cost (if not all) of Robert’s classes. UMGC has many resources that help students navigate through financial aid. There is a section that provides all financial aid forms and documents that need to be filled out and sent to UMGC. It also provides directions on how to complete the forms. The financial aid website also discusses the different types of scholarships UMGC offers for those who qualify. These tools would help greatly in the aspect of figuring out ways to afford any degree Robert wishes to pursue at UMGC. Robert’s second concern is if he will be able to afford the PowerPoint software for his presentation. There are two resources available for Robert to use. The first would be completing the PowerPoint presentation through UMGC Office 365, which allows students to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more, online for free through their student email. The second resource available to Robert would be under the technology resources under computer and software discounts. Through this students are able to download Microsoft Office or access Office 365 Education at no cost.

Rhett:Professional networking’s importance in today’s business markets and career development. Not only can meeting and developing connections help one’s business, job searching, and/or meeting people who might offer knowledge and wisdom into the field of your pursuit. The steps I can take build a network would be to exchange ideas and resources in an agriculture field could mean becoming a member of the FFA( Future Farmers of America),  CO-OP, or Volunteer as an instructor or assistant of the local 4-H.As for my interest in Public education as a teacher of History I can start now by joining the History Student Society. And begin asking for knowledge and guidance from experts of that field wherever I can find them. I actually even still keep in contact with many of my own old, World and American History teachers form school. Which is what make these networks the most beneficial for me.As for my short and long-term goals with professional networking, my short-term goals are quite simple. Through meeting and making contact make healthy, meaningful, and productive relationships with those who have succeeded in the two area’s of study that I have chosen. These relationships helping to guide me in the right direction as a cattle rancher going back into the business and learning new marketing strategies, livestock health, and management. As for my additional interest in education I Hope that my contacts will be able to guide me in the right direction of leadership of young students and their education. Long- term goals would be that both my cattle operations and teaching career would develop into strong realities by building a solid brand and being supported by leaders of the markets, which also offer many special deals in exchange for cooperation in other business. And that my teaching connections would allow me to more effectively educate students of History and take my leadership skills that I’ve learned and impact in a positive way the lives of every pupil.  Antonio:A few steps I’ll be taking to expand my network is to take advantage of volunteer opportunities in my field so that I’m able to connect with those who are in the graphic design field, and if not, graphic design then connect by discussing art. Another step I’ll be taking is applying for multiple internships. Internships not only give insight into the field that I’ve been studying but allow me to meet supervisors and managers and hopefully end up meeting a mentor or multiple mentors.     Sitting down with a few friends who are active in the community, field that I study or sub field that I’ll be working with to see if we can possibly work together on projects or if they know anyone who could help me further my studies or career. You never know who people may know.  A couple of short-term goals for networking are to intern at a technology company or graphic design firm. Research then volunteer at at least 10 different organizations. A couple of long-term goals are to be able to meet managers and supervisors directly for job opportunities. The other long-term goal is to get multiple certifications that would make me stand out when applying to different companies.     The most beneficial professional networks for artists and designers are Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Artstation. Theses professional networks are great because artists can post their artwork from past, present and what they are currently working on. They can display their talent in different ways which is a wonderful way to network and get noticed from other companies and artists who have experience in the industry.  — Antonio
