I found this article about how there have been gloves sent to the U.S. made with forced labor to be interesting. I have learned in many of my supply chain classes the majority of the worlds gloves are made in Malasia. I didn’t know that they used slave, convict, or indentured labor for this. It would make sense if this is something that has started more recently. With the huge surge in demand for gloves these places are trying to keep up and produce enough to meet that demand and recieve those profits. Is this the best way to go about it? Definately not. I wonder how many got into the country before anyone was aware of this happening and what do they do with the gloves when they realize they cannot enter the U.S. Do they send them back? I am also interested in learning how they find out if they were made by slave, indentured, or convict labor. I assume that is something that factories using things like this try to keep quiet. Having lived in the U.S. my entire life, it is so easy to forget that things like this actually still happen all over the world.

The article about gloves made in Malysa was a very interesting read. The reading was very informative and taught me alot of new things regarding regulations on imported products. I find it very disheartening to know that forced labor still exists in the world today. I think that as a country we have a responsbility to ensure that all products being imported into the U.S. are produced ethically. I do however understand that gloves are in high demand due to Covid therefore it might be hard for some countries to have as many options. The company brought into question is Top Glove Corporation Bhd. which is located in Malaysia. According to the article, the company could have alledgely used convicts in forced labor to produce the gloves. Upon review of Top Glove Corporation Bhd, there was not enough evidence to find that the company was responsible for any wrong doing. In my opinion, I believe that the gloves weren’t produced in the most ethical way and hope they don’t find there way into the U.S.
