This week, we focus on Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) practice of inspiring a shared vision. This practice calls upon the leader to envision the future and enlist others to follow. To place this principle into practice, leaders need to envision the future by imagining exciting and ennobling possibilities. In addition, they will need to enlist others in a common vision by appealing to shared aspirations.For this week’s discussion, please share your thoughts related to inspiring shared visions. Here are some ideas to get you started:

• Daniel Gilbert, a professor of psychology at Harvard University, wrote: “The human being is the only animal that thinks about the future” (Ott, 2009, p. 254). Discuss how you or someone you know imagines future possibilities. Is that a good thing or should we focus more on the present?
• What about the past? How do you reflect upon your past without letting it weigh heavily on your future?
• The key to enlisting others is to appeal to common ideals and animate the vision. How do you connect to what is meaningful to others? How do you animate a vision to others and breathe life into it?
