Purpose of the Speech: To inform the audience about an object, place, event, person, or idea. The goal of the speech should be informative (not intended to persuade the audience). The focus should therefore be about the significance of the topic, its relevant aspects, its cultural importance, how individuals and groups understand it, etc.

Structure of the Speech:  the informative speech will consist of an introduction, 2-3 main points, and a conclusion.

The main points should be structured according to the various organizational patterns outlined in the textbook (chronological, spatial, topical) in a manner appropriate for the specific topic and purpose.  Connectives and transitions must be used.
