Professional development tracks are learning how to strengthen your skills in creating and updating your resume is to blend your education, experiences, skills, and qualifications with the requirements of a particular position.  One of the weaknesses in creating a resume is not representing yourself by highlighting your experience according to the job you are applying for and having misspelled words, and grammatical errors, because your resume is your representative.

           Setting up a LinkedIn account is a great tool to market yourself that will help you seek professional opportunities and enhance your career. One of the best practices for developing a LinkedIn profile is providing a platform for yourself and receive a wide range of connections to people and corporations. The downside, like any social media site, individuals have access to your information and using it for the wrong reasons. So, it is essential to ensure only authorized personnel has access to your page for security, make changes, and other administration functions.

           The advantage of being a member of a professional organization in public administration is to enhance your professional network and to have access to career and learning opportunities.  Making a connection with other members with similar interests and members will be enduring the possibilities for making fundamental contributions to the condition of the community for the betterment of society and the economy as a way to give back to the community.  It will help if you put in the time, work, and contribution to remain active in a professional organization.

           Professional development and hard work are taught throughout the Bible, which can be applied to having a successful career or business.  For example, Psalm 90:17 states, Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us, and Proverbs 14:23 tells us, “In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.”  We must put in work to be successful or stay in poverty.

Critique the activities of the Professional Development track by commenting on some strengths and weaknesses of the track.  To what extent did the weekly activities enhance your professional profile and awareness?

 The professional development track has allowed me to display my professional credentials. The process has assisted me in developing a professional outline of my career accomplishments. I was able to update my resume and my linked in account following the best practices outlined in the lesson plan.

  The strength of utilizing the Professional development track is that it helps you to identify your goals. It also helps you to learn new skills that will aid in your growth and succeed at work. This entire course has been a journey for me that has allowed me to display my skills and talents, by developing a professional display of my work history, skills and accomplishments. It actually felt like I was applying for a job position.

 Some of the challenges of the professional Development skills is that you may not be able to show case all of your talents and accomplishments in your resume or on your linked in account, you will have to incorporate statements that will align with your employment history. You can do this by creating a successful cover letter. Adding Key catch phrases can add to the enhancement of standout statements. This will allow your resume, your LinkedIn account to be noticed by recruiters, Managers and the HR department.  Also this process can be very time consuming if you do not stay on top of your accomplishments.

1Corinthians 16:13-14, states “Be on guard; stand firm in faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.”  Remember, you are responsible for your own soul. You are your own landlord”.

This verse reminds us that we must be on guard at all times when it comes to staying in charge and on top of our career. It is our sole responsibility to track our own professional development. As our carrier advances and we develop new skills, we are responsible for keeping this information up to date.

  By utilizing the professional development track I was able to update my resume to ensure that there was no gaps of employment, to ensure that my resume was grammatically correct and formatted and also to update my LinkedIn account.  This process has allowed me to become more aware of outdated information on my resume, cover letter and my LinkedIn account, the process of creating professional development track, allows you to stay abreast of any and all updates of your career path.

In conclusion, you will need to monitor your professional development track.  It is an ongoing process and continues throughout a professional’s career. Continuous professional development is a career-long obligation. It is your obligation to ensure that your professional development is always maintained and provides the most accurate display of your professional attributes.
