A JOURNAL OF THE PLAGUE YEAR ASSIGNMENT
Using Daniel Defoe’s A Journal Of The Plague Year(New York: Penguin Classics, 1986) as your source, write an essay that explores the similarities and differences between the experience of the plague in London in 1665 and your experience of Covid 19. Unlike your previous essay, you are not required to use footnotes or endnotes, though they are preferred. You are required to draw from the text of the Journal, as assigned. You can use in-text citations, e.g., (Journal, 99), note the italics.
It is an essential requirement of this assignment that you use and cite this document as evidence for your argument.
FORMAT
1. Your submission should be at three to four pages long (that is at least three to four pages of interpretation), double-spaced, and have one inch margins top and bottom, one inch margins left and right.
2. The paper title, your name, the course and section number, and your year (freshman, junior, etc,) should be included on a separate title page.

Read TWO of the articles below, one each on a topic you haven’t studied much but think is important.
1. Summarize the key points from the two articles, identifying each article with author and title as you begin. (About 1/2 page for each summary, about 1 page total)
2. Discuss why this information isn’t better known and why it should be better known. Explain. (About 1/2 – 1 page total)
3. Discuss whether this information would make people more or less patriotic (or have no effect). Explain. (About 1/2 – 1 page total)
Use only the information from the two articles you chose. I want your analysis, not something you found on the Internet on the subject.  Work alone. You can discuss all three parts of the question for the first article, then all three for the second, or answer Part 1 for the two, then Part 2, then Part 3.

You don’t need a title page or Works Cited since you are only discussing the two articles which you will identify in the first paragraph or as soon as you start discussing them. Use proper American English spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and paragraphs.

Outline a reform to Nevada’s Constitution.

As you did with the U.S. Constitution assignment, you are going to read two articles about the Constitution. However, rather than critique the arguments made regarding the U.S. system, you are going to take the first step toward synthesizing an argument.

Assignment directions

1. Read the material on synthesizing (the PowerPoint and the matrix example) included in the course just before this assignment.
2. Read TWO of the sources below which are on the same or similar topics (two on the legislature or on judges, for example).
3. Identify information from the two articles which would help persuade people to change the system. Identify four points to make and organize the information from both articles under the four points. Organize by point, not by source. Each article must contribute to at least two of your four points. The matrix can help organize your draft but you submit a written outline of the paper.
You are not actually writing the paper but outlining it. Clearly identify your four points and which information from each article you would use to support each point. Clearly identify whether something is your idea, was said by the author of the article, or was said by someone quoted in the article.
