Drawing on course readings or outside scholarly sources, support your answer with examples and clear rationales.

The goal of protecting patient information privacy often conflicts with the goal of providing the improved healthcare that EMRs can support. Provisions in HIPAA provide some confidentiality protection, but not enough. Potential for a major privacy breach lies in the system of primary or secondary users.

What privacy and security issues are hindering the adoption of EMR systems? In your opinion, which of these issues is the most important to address first? Drawing on course readings or outside scholarly sources, support your answer with examples and clear rationales.

Identify existing resources in your community that serve and promote health for this specific underserved, at-risk population.

Culturally Competent Planning

For this assignment, select a vulnerable population in your community and explain how health care can be affected by cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds. Building on the skills that you practiced in your Unit 6 assignment, create a plan to promote health and wellness within your chosen population, using (and correctly citing) information from this week’s study activities and any additional resources that you find on your own as you research your chosen population. Paper length: 6-7 pages.

For the population, you can use Denver, and what risks, at-risk population we have. Inflation of the housing market, and not being compensated for the cost of living is just an example…but you’ll have to do a little research for our at-risk populations.

For your assignment:

  1. Identify your population, and explain why this specific population within your community qualifies as at-risk.
  2. Identify health concerns for this at-risk population.
  3. Identify existing resources in your community that serve and promote health for this specific underserved, at-risk population.
  4. Identify high-quality electronic sources of health care information to address the needs of your chosen population.
  5. Create an evidence-based plan to promote health and wellness in this at-risk population.
  6. Explain how culture, ethnicity, and social background may affect your health care plan and what strategies you would put in place to address these concerns.
  7. Follow the guidelines of APA writing style, using correct grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Evaluate your work by reviewing it for clarity and logic.
  8. Correctly format citations (in-text and in your Reference list) using APA style.

? Does the transfer of information occur smoothly, or do you need to re-enter data from one application to the next, e.g., patient information from the emergency room does not transfer along with the patient who is admitted to the critical care unit?

Discussion

Improving Usability and interoperability are major issues to consider in the development of Healthcare Information Systems (HIS). How does your organization address these issues? Does the transfer of information occur smoothly, or do you need to re-enter data from one application to the next, e.g., patient information from the emergency room does not transfer along with the patient who is admitted to the critical care unit? Or, the patient is discharged and the home care nurses have to “start from scratch” as they prepare the patient’s plan of care.

Describe a problem, issue, or situation that you have observed during your Practicum Experience not related to your project (no more than a half page) (10 points)

What regulatory standards would you address? As you proceed, you will continue to gather evidence from a combination of sources for your project as part of your written Practicum Project Plan.

  • Reflect on the focus of your proposed Practicum Project, which you identified through discussion with your practicum Faculty Member and Preceptor last week.
  • View the Practicum Project Plan (PPP) Overview document provided in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the project planning guidelines included in the document as you prepare for this Discussion.
  • Address the following to help you develop your plan for the Practicum Project:
    • Review the scholarly literature, specialization standards, and/or regulatory standards that validate and shed light on your Practicum Project focus. Which professional organizations would you contact in relation to your topic? What regulatory standards would you address? As you proceed, you will continue to gather evidence from a combination of sources for your project as part of your written Practicum Project Plan.
    • Identify the overarching goal for your Practicum Project.
    • Consider how you can achieve your Practicum Project goal through the development and fulfillment of objectives. Based on your Practicum Project goal, develop two or three objectives that are specific, measurable, attainable, results-focused, and time-focused. Incorporate higher-order verbs from Bloom’s taxonomy (i.e., Application-level and above) as you create the objectives. You may wish to review last week’s Learning Resources related to developing objectives.
  • Contemplate any questions or concerns you may have about your Practicum Project or the planning involved. What kind of support could your colleagues offer to help you move forward?

Note: Be mindful of privacy concerns as you engage in this and future Discussions. Do not identify any organizations or individuals by name.

Post on or before Day 3 a description of your proposed Practicum Project. Provide a brief rationale for your selected focus that incorporates references from the literature, specialization standards, regulatory standards, and/or other sources you have used to validate this project. Explain the overarching project goal, and list two or three measurable objectives that will help you meet the goal. Also, share any questions or concerns that your colleagues may be able to help you address as you proceed with planning for your Practicum Project.

The Practicum Project Plan is a scholarly proposal for your project. Over the next few weeks, you develop elements of your plan and then integrate these elements in a 4- to 6-page scholarly paper.

Refer to the Practicum Project Plan (PPP) Overview document provided in this week’s Learning Resources, for details about this assignment. Be sure to consider the project planning guidelines included in the document as you proceed with the development of your plan.
