Identify a process that is completed on a consistent basis in your organization (or one with which you are familiar). Examples of a process include such things as how a patient is moved through the system, or what must occur to prepare an examination room or hospital room for the next patient.

In this video, Dr. William Ward describes brown paper analysis, process flow analysis, and value stream mapping. Dr. Ward demonstrates the application of the three types of analyses to the same scenario to highlight their different uses.

Discussion: Process Flow Analysis

Have you ever encountered a process that had too many steps or was overly complicated? Perhaps you examined the process and looked for areas where you could remove steps or simplify its flow. If you did, you were conducting a process flow analysis. Process analysis is an important step in determining the financial well-being of an organization and pinpointing areas where changes could help improve the bottom line. In this Assignment, you will create a process flow analysis (also known as workflow diagramming) for an activity in your own organization (or one with which you are familiar).

To prepare:

  • Review the information in the Learning Resources (including the Media) for this week dealing with how to perform a process flow analysis.
  • Identify a process that is completed on a consistent basis in your organization (or one with which you are familiar). Examples of a process include such things as how a patient is moved through the system, or what must occur to prepare an examination room or hospital room for the next patient.
  • Create a simple flow analysis map detailing the process using Microsoft Word using one of the methods below:
    • Select SmartArt from the Insert menu and select a diagram that matches the flowchart structure you would like to use.
    • Select Shapes from theInsert menu and select the shape that matches the flowchart piece you would like to use. Continue inserting shapes and connect them using the arrow shapes.
  • Reflect on the ease or difficulty of obtaining the necessary information to create your flow analysis map.
  • Identify “white space” as defined in the article, “Hospital Operating System: Unleashing Throughput Potential” found in the Learning Resources for this week.
  • Determine strategies for improving the process flow.
  • Reflect on the role of the process flow analysis in financial decision making and how it can have positive impacts on the process. Attach your Flow Analysis Map to your Discussion post.

Describe the process you analyzed and how you went about gathering the necessary information to create your flow analysis map. Identify specific areas of white space that need to be addressed and propose strategies for improving the process. Analyze how process flow analysis can be a useful tool in financial decision making and the ramifications of not using it. Be sure and include your flow analysis map when you turn in your paper.

Reminder: This Discussion assignment serves as your Portfolio Assignment for this course. Be sure to save this Discussion Assignment on both your hard drive and on an external drive.

What police procedures are used during arrests, and how do these procedures lead people to feel confused, fearful, and dehumanized?

Please login to the following Web page: http://www.prisonexp.org/ and take a tour through the slide show, which shows actual footage of the Stanford Prison study.

Please respond to three (3) of the following discussion questions;

What police procedures are used during arrests, and how do these procedures lead people to feel confused, fearful, and dehumanized?

If you were a guard, what type of guard would you have become? How sure are you?

What prevented “good guards” from objecting or countermanding the orders from tough or bad guards?

If you were a prisoner, would you have been able to endure the experience? What would you have done differently than those subjects did? If you were imprisoned in a “real” prison for five years or more, could you take it?

Why did our prisoners try to work within the arbitrary prison system to effect a change in it (e.g., setting up a Grievance Committee), rather than trying to dismantle or change the system through outside help?

What factors would lead prisoners to attribute guard brutality to the guards’ disposition or character, rather than to the situation?

What is “reality” in a prison setting? This study is one in which an illusion of imprisonment was created, but when do illusions become real?

Post your answers to the discussion board and comment on at least two posts of your classmates.

How can this tool assist you in providing appropriate interventions to      meet the needs of your patient?

Week 4 Assignment

This assignment requires you to interview one person and requires an analysis of your interview experience.

Part I: Interview

Select a patient, a family member, or a friend to interview. Be sure to focus on the interviewee’s experience as a patient, regardless of whom you choose to interview.

Review The Joint Commission resource found in topic materials, which provides some guidelines for creating spiritual assessment tools for evaluating the spiritual needs of patients. Using this resource and any other guidelines/examples that you can find, create your own tool for assessing the spiritual needs of patients.

Your spiritual needs assessment survey must include a minimum of five questions that can be answered during the interview. During the interview, document the interviewee’s responses.

The transcript should include the questions asked and the answers provided. Be sure to record the responses during the interview by taking detailed notes. Omit specific names and other personal information through which the interviewee can be determined.

Part II: Analysis

Write a 500-750 word analysis of your interview experience. Be sure to exclude specific names and other personal information from the interview. Instead, provide demographics such as sex, age, ethnicity, and religion. Include the following in your response:

  1. What went well?
  2. Were there any barriers or challenges that inhibited your ability to      complete the assessment tool? How would you address these in the future or      change your assessment to better address these challenges?
  3. How can this tool assist you in providing appropriate interventions to      meet the needs of your patient?
  4. Did you discover that illness and stress amplified the spiritual      concern and needs of your interviewee? Explain your answer with examples.

Submit both the transcript of the interview and the analysis of your results. This should be submitted as one document. The interview transcript does not figure into the word count.

How would each religion interpret the nature of George’s malady and      suffering? Is there a “why” to his disease and suffering? (i.e., is there      a reason for why George is ill, beyond the reality of physical malady?)

Week 5 Assignment

The practice of health care providers at all levels brings you into contact with people from a variety of faiths. This calls for knowledge and acceptance of a diversity of faith expressions.

The purpose of this paper is to complete a comparative ethical analysis of George’s situation and decision from the perspective of two worldviews or religions: Christianity and a second religion of your choosing. For the second faith, choose a faith that is unfamiliar to you. Examples of faiths to choose from include Sikh, Baha’i, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc.

In your comparative analysis, address all of the worldview questions in detail for Christianity and your selected faith. Refer to Chapter 2 of Called to Care for the list of questions. Once you have outlined the worldview of each religion, begin your ethical analysis from each perspective.

In a minimum of 1,500-2,000 words, provide an ethical analysis based upon the different belief systems, reinforcing major themes with insights gained from your research, and answering the following questions based on the research:

  1. How would each religion interpret the nature of George’s malady and      suffering? Is there a “why” to his disease and suffering? (i.e., is there      a reason for why George is ill, beyond the reality of physical malady?)
  2. In George’s analysis of his own life, how would each religion think      about the value of his life as a person, and value of his life with ALS?
  3. What sorts of values and considerations would each religion focus on      in deliberating about whether or not George should opt for euthanasia?
  4. Given the above, what options would be morally justified under each      religion for George and why?
  5. Finally, present and defend your own view.

Support your position by referencing at least three academic resources (preferably from the GCU Library) in addition to the course readings, lectures, the Bible, and the textbooks for each religion. Each religion must have a primary source included. A total of six references are required according to the specifications listed above. Incorporate the research into your writing in an appropriate, scholarly manner.
