What are some ways that you think the US healthcare system can better impact clinical outcomes?  Do they have a role to play in preventative care? Respond with 150 words including a scholarly source

1)With new technologies usually comes better efficiencies and happy customers, however, does it make the care better? Preventative health care is huge in our nation right and I can imagine the amount of money being poured into preventative efforts. Is all the expense worth it though? I heard on the radio yesterday that 1/2 of the children in the United States will grow up to be obese adults. This astonished me. How can it be possible? When it comes down to it, you can educate and educate again, but everyone is free to make their own (bad) choices. So, although I agree that financial flexibility can yield positive outcomes in health care, I think a mysterious gap remains when these outcomes aren’t present.  Respond with 150 words including a scholarly source

3) How can the use of preventative and wellness measures and lower length of stays impact the financial flexibility within healthcare organizations since they are making such huge profits? 150 words including a scholarly source

4) According to Aidemark (2001) there were specific reasons why the internal market system was abandoned.  One hospital superintendent felt strongly it would impact their budget.  Can you please explain what the concern was and the possible impact? 150 words including a scholarly source

5) Can you provide some reasons why the internal market system was abandoned per the Aidemark (2001) article?  He cited a specific reason why it was abandoned.  And, do you agree with the decision?  150 words including a scholarly source

Part 1: Continuing Education (Part 1 should be at least 1 ½ pages and include 2 outside references plus the textbook.)

Continuing education units are required for renewal of license (in some states) and for recertification. Continuing education opens doors to job opportunities. Answer the questions:

  • Why is advancing your degree and knowledge important for nursing as a profession? Explain and give several reasons.
  • How would you respond to a nurse that states: “I only want to live and work in a state that does not require continue education credits and I never want to advance my degree?” Explain in detail what you would say and why.

Part 2: Future of Nursing (Part 2 should be at least 2 pages and include 2 outside references and the textbook.)

Review the author’s vision in the textbook (Chapter 25), of the future of nursing and complete your own research to include the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report.

  • Do you agree with the authors or do you have a different vision of nursing? Explain and provide examples as to why you do agree or do not agree.

Discuss potential advantages and disadvantages for vulnerable populations in seeking these resources.  Support your responses with examples.

Locate a minimum of three community or national resources for your illness group chosen in Week 1, preferably in your community. Study these resources and write a report about them in a 4- to 5-page Microsoft Word document. Include in your response all the information the patient should know about them (the specific services they offer, fee schedules, if and when appropriate, criteria for eligibility, and any other important information). Discuss potential advantages and disadvantages for vulnerable populations in seeking these resources.  Support your responses with examples.

1) Identify two nurse-sensitive indicators of quality that relate to patient care and analyze the influence of early quality improvement theories and philosophies on the development of those indicators.  For this exercise, do not choose nurse sensitive indicators that relate to staffing levels.

How do you define quality as it pertains to health care and the practice of nursing? Some nurses may define quality as effective interdisciplinary teamwork that results in better patient-health outcomes, while hospital administrators may define quality as appropriately delegated responsibilities, completion of tasks, and effective patient flow. Due to the subjective nature of the term, quality is a topic of great debate.
In an effort to define quality in health care, standards have been developed to establish consistency and provide guidance. The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) outlines nursing-sensitive indicators that encompass measurement scales for quality of nurse professionals as well as quality of the services provided by nurses to patients. In this week’s Discussion, you evaluate the determinants of quality.m based on the NDNQI indicators and the theoretical underpinnings of these quality indicators. You apply nursing-sensitive indicators to your current setting and assess how each definition of quality contributes to the idea of quality overall.
To prepare:

  • Review      the NDNQI indicators presented in the Learning Resources that emphasize      quality. Focus on those indicators that pertain to your practice setting (Hospital).
  • Consider      the influence of early quality improvement theories and philosophies on      the development of those quality indicators.
  • Using      the Walden Library, locate at least two scholarly research articles that      discuss how quality indicators influence your practice setting.
  • Select      one definition of quality published by any peer-reviewed source that      particularly resonates with your thinking about quality.

· Describe a method for providing both the patient and family with education and explain your rationale.

Mr. P is a 76-year-old male with cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure who has been hospitalized frequently to treat CHF symptoms. He has difficulty maintaining diet restrictions and managing his polypharmacy. He has 4+ pitting edema, moist crackles throughout lung fields, and labored breathing. He has no family other than his wife, who verbalizes sadness over his declining health and over her inability to get out of the house. She is overwhelmed with the stack of medical bills, as Mr. P always took care of the financial issues. Mr. P is despondent and asks why God has not taken him.

Question

Considering Mr. P’s condition and circumstance, write an essay of 750-1000 words that includes the following:

· Describe your approach to care.

· Recommend a treatment plan.

· Describe a method for providing both the patient and family with education and explain your rationale.

· Provide a teaching plan (avoid using terminology that the patient and family may not understand).

Cite references to support your positions.
