1. Identify a national story that is currently in the news.
   Select two of the following major media outlets that are both covering the story:
   ·      ABC News
   ·      CBS News
   ·      CNN
   ·      Fox News
   ·      MSNBC
   ·      NPR
   Search for coverage of the news story you have selected from each of the two outlets.
   Note: The stories you choose to compare may take the form of a live broadcast, video, audio, or printed word (e.g., you may select a CNN live broadcast and an ABC written article).
   Write a paper of at least 1,000 words as a Word document that addresses the following:
   ·      Do both media outlets use a traditional journalistic perspective in presenting the story? Explain your response.
   ·      Are the sources used in the news stories appropriate or credible? Why or why not?
   ·      Is the message of the story the same as presented by each media outlet? What is the message of each story?
   ·      Did one story seem more believable to you than the other? Explain.
   ·      As outlined in your textbook, truthfulness, neutrality, and accuracy are three criteria for determining the quality of news. Did each story have all three? Did one story have more or less of one of the three qualities? What prompted you to determine this?
   ·      Does either outlet present the story in a manner that is biased? If so, how did you recognize the bias? If not, how did the story appear to avoid bias?
   ·      If one or both of the stories were biased in some way, what are your suggestions for making them more fair and balanced?
   ·      Does either story include overtones or elements of racial or gender stereotypes? If so, describe.
   ·      Do any of the stories appear to be incomplete or require additional context for viewers to fully understand the meaning?
   ·      Could different types of audiences interpret the stories in different ways? If so, in what ways?
   Include a title page at the front of your document showing the correct assignment title, the course name, your name, and the date consistent with APA format for title pages. Do not use font larger than 12 point, please.

Digital Forensics
There are three primary goals with digital forensics:

1. Collect electronically stored information in a sound, defensible manner,
2. Analyze the results of the collections, and
3. Present the findings either in formal legal proceedings or less formally to inform a client.

• Electronic evidence can be short-lived and fragile. It needs to be collected in a defensible, methodological manner to preserve it accurately, and to withstand scrutiny in legal proceedings. (chain of custody)
• Electronic evidence can be highly probative, both as it appears to users, and behind the scenes. There is a lot of information that a computer user never sees (e.g. metadata, logs, registry entries). This behind-the-scenes evidence may provide a wealth of information about who did what when and where. Forensic analysts are trained to preserve, collect and interpret this kind of evidence.
• Some digital files can be recovered, even if a user has tried to delete them.

Locate a famous case where digital forensics played a role, and share it with the class.  Discuss how digital forensics was critical in cracking the case.  Examples are listed below, but you can’t use them – find your own.
Famous cases cracked with digital forensics
Be it a text message, Google searches or GPS information, a person’s digital footprint can provide plenty of ammunition in the courtroom. Here are a few cases where digital forensics played a critical role in bringing about justice
.
1. The BTK Killer, Dennis Rader
Perhaps the most famous case to be solved through digital forensics is that of the BTK Killer Dennis Rader, with “BTK” referring to his MO of “bind, torture and kill.” Rader enjoyed taunting police during his killing sprees in Wichita, KS. But this also proved to be his fatal flaw. A floppy disk Rader sent to police revealed his true identity. He was soon arrested, pled guilty and was put behind bars for life, much to the relief of his long-terrorized community.
2. Dr. Conrad Murray’s lethal prescriptions
Another recent case solved with digital forensics was that of Dr. Conrad Murray, personal physician of Michael Jackson. Digital forensics played a crucial role in the trial. After Jackson passed away unexpectedly in 2009, the autopsy found Jackson’s death to be the result of prescription drugs. Investigators discovered documentation on Dr. Murray’s computer showing his authorization of lethal amounts of the drugs, and he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for Jackson’s death. He served two years in prison and lost his medical license.
3. The Craigslist Killer, Philip Markoff
When one woman was killed and another attacked after meeting individuals through Craigslist, Boston was on high alert. Fortunately, law enforcement had their suspect within a week of the murder, thanks to digital forensics. Investigators tracked the IP address from the emails used in the Craigslist correspondence to an unlikely suspect: 23-year-old medical student Philip Markoff. Without the digital trail of evidence, who knows how prolific Markoff could have become.

Set up a MS Word document to include both of the following steps:
Step 1:
You will research information about an ethical issue and an emerging technology.
• Find at least three (3) sites that identify and describe the ethical issue that you want to research• Enter these into a Word document• Find at least three (3) sites that identify an emerging technology of your choosing• Enter these into the Word document as well• NOTE: Your chosen ethical issue and your chosen emerging technology must be related in some way• For instance, if social media is your emerging technology, then choose an issue that is ethically related to that  emergingtechnology• Keep all (6) URLs in the Word document.▪ NOTE: URL means address of a Web page
Step 2:  
Create a bibliography (reference page) using the Word references feature.
Include each of your sources. Use the resources available on the GCF LearnFree website  on “How to create a bibliography or works cited page in Word”.
Once you’ve been through the above site,
•  •  ▪  ▪ For each of your 6 URLs (from Step 1), create a source through MS Word’s Citations and Bibliography section ▪ Have MS Word generate your Bibliography or Works Cited table to include APA-style information on your 6 sources▪ Enter your Bibliography or Works Cited table into the Word document
 
CURRENT ASSIGNMENT
When you did your MS Assignment #1, you chose self-driving cars as your emerging technology and their negative impact as your ethical issue.
Also,
– There are statements made throughout that are not backed up by any citations.
– Make sure you have at least 6 references under the “Bibliography” section in APA style.
– You didn’t really connect your emerging technology to the ethical issue in a convincing manner.
– You’ll get a chance to provide more on the above items, when you do the final draft; that is, the next assignment.
MS Word Assignment 4
Update your MS Word Assignment #3 by iincorporating  the feedback you received on that Assignment 3 (the initial draft) to arrive at your final draft: your MS Word Assignment 4.
Ensure to format your paper according to the APA formatting style.  It should include:
· Title page
· Table of Contents
· Abstract
· Body of paper with sources credited parenthetically
· See the explanation on this below
· References page (having at least 6 sources in APA style)

What Should the Body of Paper Include?
The body of your paper should include:
· Introduction: The introduction begins by introducing the broad overall topic and providing basic background information.  It then narrows down to the specific research question relating to this topic.  It provides the purpose and focus for the rest of the paper and sets up the justification for the research.
· A brief explanation of your choices. The body should tell why you chose that particular “Ethical Issue” and “Emerging Technology”. Explain in detail on what you discovered.
· Explain the benefits and limitations of the emerging technology that you have chosen to write about. Details should be supported by your research.
· Evaluate the ethical issue that you have chosen. Relate this issue to the identified emerging technology (above). Support your opinion by citing facts learned in your research.
